Did you buy this car from NorthShore Prestige...? If am not wrong this is a White RX/RS with the Nismo dash?

Not sure about how to control the MD but I will have a look through the manuals that I have and see if I can find any information.

Cheers

Andy

  • 2 weeks later...
Bump. Anybody got ideas still can't figure it out. Has power going to it. But don't know how to get it to play.

Maybe if you actually supply a photo of the deck he can help, but as I have the single din stereo in my RS I have no idea. I have an Aux button on mine that takes the signal from the analogue tv tuner (oem) in the back of the vehicle.

I wonder if the MD is wired directly into the deck itself or if it's cables run back to the analogue tv tuner?!

There should be a button on the stereo that allows you to play from the md.

has stereo got an aux in?

i can't fathom why you would waste your time on minidiscs. MD was a format which for some reason japan went apeshit for, but didn't take off in the rest of the world. mainly MD is a tempramental and frustrating format, they're like CD's but without the convenience.

this is coming from me - a guy who when i was 15 bought an MD player thinking i was the king shit in high school cos i had an MD player while all the CHUMPS had discmans. two months later. MP3 players came out. for real cheap too.

Society - 1

Rowan - 0

after my bout of self pwnage. i grew up.

car stereos mostly have aux inputs these days. so that external audio source can play in the car speakers, people get their ipod shuffle and plug it in, pimp huh?

well this is where Rowan gets his own back on society.

another thing japan went apeshit for that never took off in rest of the world. is the sony PSP.

PSP can store 16G mem cards. has a neat sized LCD / LED hidef screen, and plays any and all media formats.

music

movies

games

music videos

you name it. it plays it.

cool thing about PSP is when playing music - it has about 6 different visual displays which generate from the music, from graphic EQ display to rolling landscapes which suit to music.

you drag n drop music / movies / tv shows / whatever onto the PSP. plug the line in to your aux player. make some makeshift hooks to hold the PSP over your stereo. you have a complete media centre with a 5/6in hidef screen. with an impressive interface and graphic EQ that will trump ANYTHING made my alpine / pioneer. it's SO easy to do.

there's also a GPS satnav receiver you can buy for the PSP so you can also use it as your GPS

when you're finished driving, simply unplug the PSP. take it with you and play some sonic the hedgehog. use it as an MP3 player, call your friends on SKYPE etc.

want more music? simply plug it into your computer and drag and drop files.

same goes with movies

most people sell their PSP2000 models for DIRT cheap these days - I personally bought a new PSP3000 model (cos it's the slimmer version - also has a larger screen and higher definition)

there's now the PSPGO too which is an even smaller more compact unit.

why try to force the minidisc format to make you happy when for $300(maximum) you have a complete media centre which just plugs into your existing system?

=) sorry to go off topic but i just don't see why you would waste your time trying to make it work... (in my eyes) you may as well be asking "how do i get my 7" 45's to play in my car using the turntable?" haha

I guess I give up on the md. 6 cd good enough.

Managing the content on MD's is a pain any how  I had my MD stacker ripped out the other week, I never had it functioning either. It's free'd up my centre console so I can actually use it to store stuff!

    • I see what you mean on that last paragraph and makes sense. I am leaning towards because I made the repair/filler area large that I didn't use a long enough block. Will minimise the area and let you's know how I go. This is random but I noticed when I put epoxy primer it felt flat but that's just temporary.
    • Tried to repair with filler only. The block is a foam block but quite hard and I put a velcro on it for sandpaper, the hook and loop system. It's not one of those super soft ones that just follow the panel. Similar to a dura block.
    • You need one of those automated sprays that puffs a nice small every 15 minutes in their room. Except swap the nice smell for chloroform...
    • Don't step down power supply size, maintain it the whole way. It's how I'd do it. OR, Id have one feed, with one joint that splits out to six smaller gauge wires that go to each coil. I wouldn't add joins like stepping from 12 to 16, at the first two coils, as if you try to continue that fashion, each joint will introduce a voltage drop. In theory, earths should be the same size as power feeds, however in this case the main power needs to be bigger due to the average size current. So the next question is, how much current do these coils actually need?
    • I think Murray is onto it. It's sounding like either it's a soft block, not long enough block, OR if you're chasing waves, you're going in the direction of the waves, instead of across them. Rotate your sanding pattern by 45 degrees is something to try. You said you're going in an X, so now instead, from the same perspective, do a "t" instead.   If you're not able to have the block sit on top of two high points, and not touch the low point between them, you'll never get it flat.
