ive had mercs and beemers and lexus's honestly, there nice but there boring as f**k. i drove a mates 03/4 r8 not that long ago and it fkn hammered.

unless u can afford to buy a propper amg v8 or a v8 or turbo beemer then seriously dont bother

If you only have $25-$30K to spend, why don't you seriously look at a 2door E46 330Ci? I'm looking at a few now in Perth, and i've driven a 5speed manual with all the fruit (tv, gps, leather, sunroof, all elecs bla bla bla) and for a 3L inline6, and being luxury and smooth as silk on the road they are pretty quick.

Put it this way, my 323Ci (2.5L Inline 6) had no probs hitting 200k's, so trust me, a 330Ci has plenty of squirt. And funnily enough, the ecu's in the E46's are "learning" ecu's. So if you hammer it around a bit the ecu will adapt to your driving style and the car will actaully develop slightly more power. And just for anyone reading this, no that is not a load of bullshit....

no holdens and syfon no non "M" bmw's as i said i wanna get something different/rare or just special in a way so that i can sell in 4-5 years time and still get some money from it... although i'll admit E46 330Ci is good value, will definately keep it in mind cheers

I saw that M5, kms are a huge put off lol. But still, its a BMW so if its been maintained, it'll last forever.

I originally wanted an E34 M5 but finding a good one is hard, then there are dreamer prices...

Also, had a E39 540i for a while. Black on black, 120kms full books. Sold that for 18.5k but had 2 calls of 20k after I sold it =/ (Made 200rwhp on a low reading dyno in perth, 40deg day)

Possibly higher than desirable for a unique car, but knowing BMW reliability, it's only just run in.

so basically the evos are the later model e36s that came with the 3.2 and 6sp right?

236kw and weighs about the same as a 34 gtt not bad at all. do you know if sunroof was a factory option or they just didnt come with it?

well my 34 is at 115Ks and im stressing that i wont be able to sell it while Ks are still low enough lol i just think anything over 150Ks is "high" but thats just me

go take it for a test drive tell us what we're missing :D

Yeah, later model bigger engine, better box more economical and more torque.

Sunroof was a factory option, as were electric seats.

Hardcore people didnt like electric seats cause they added 50kg apparently (read on M3 forum USA).

Mines got manual adjustable seats and no roof :worship: (Haven't had it weighed though)

Re Kms, yeah mines got 99k miles, about 160k kms but still makes lots of power, smooth etc. (Stock Euro's make about 210-220rwhp)

Theres a bloke on M3 forum USA with 300k miles on his M3 lol. (USA Spec ones are fail.... 3l = 240hp, 3.2l = 240hp, apprently due to emission laws)

Its gutless as fk after a 430rwhp R32 GTR :D

Instant power is awesome though. Its not slow as such, plenty of power and I cruise around down in 5th or 6th doing 1500-2k rpm lol.

Oh yeah, mines got a short shifter too, instant shifts ftw. It is pretty quick still (I topped 260 end of 5th, went into 6th but no more road :)) and the handling of these things are just simply awesome. So neutral with that nice bit of oversteer :)

Selling cause i don't want to uni daily it (worst drivers, dents, sun all day, rack up kms). Ya, impulse buy really :worship: Always wanted one.

I drove a mates 3.2L with the smg box. He bought it because he can't drive a manual. I've got to say, it's the worst type of gearbox i've ever experienced in my life. How on mighty earth did bmw manage to approve such horrible engineering is beyond me. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

But the power was nice and smooth, the car felt rock solid and build quality is typical standard of what bmw makes.

^Yes. Drove a 108km full log book one. SMG. What a fail.

Sooooooooooooo slow to change gears. (Not to mention super un-reliability.)

Needless to say I went straight to the manual one for sale and bought that instead...

if you want it done properly do it yourself :)

with your price range I'm not sure these are the cars you should be looking at, they'll be old and expensive to run.

if it's just gonna break anyway you could probably get an alfa romeo GT :)

or even a series 5 VW GTI. Both cars not exactly amazing in terms of speed, but ok.

a mate keeps telling me to get an alfa gt gotta admit alfa knows how to make some beautiful cars. new 159 in black is evil!

but gotta keep in mind resale values might aswell get a hsv r8 as mentioned before lol

and yes older cars will probably need more attention but one with good service history should be fine

My good friend used to own a 1998 E36 M3 Anniversary edition convertible. Was the 3.2L 6 etc.....all it had was a cat back exhaust and it was making 258hp @ the rear wheels. That pulled a low low 13....

If you are really only going to consider an "M" BMW, then go for an E39 M5, power, luxury, style, everything :(

i was close at getting an e46 m3 but went with the r34 gtr instead after reading a few things and im very happy with my choice :( .

but anyway what i wanted to say is that i did alot of research on m3's and with the smg box are you sure that they just didnt have the shift speed adjusted properly because there are a few different settings you can have and when set to the fastest these things change super fast. not very good if you put it in auto mode though.

also found alot of little tricks you can do with the smg boxes aswell.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
