I have a Eonon - EO859 that came with my GTT, but it randomly drops radio and "seeks". I have taken it out and checked the aerial but all looked fine. Not sure what else to check anyone help me out.

Here is a link to the unit - http://rsonlineshop.com.my/Spec/New/859.htm

Thanks for reading.

most of the time its going to happen with any radio, multipath is a huge problem with "Nissan diversity antennas" they suck ass on a good day

before blaming the radio I would look at the antenna connection, most are hacked up when they bring them into OZ. to put on freq.converters. and without a good ground plane refuse to get a decent signal. or they might just have a loose jack ? setup on local or distance switch ????

you can get a stick on grid antenna similar to the rear defroster grid for a replacement or go old school and get a EVO,BMW,MERC roof mount instead ?

Hey troy thanks for the reply. The antenna on the back on the unit looks very clean and untouched. Im not quite sure what else to look at / for.

most likely the antenna in the rear de- mister area then or mutipath from nissan diversity antenna idea (worthless) in adelaide, if your unit has a local distance button put it on local in town?

where in town does it happen? expressway ,airport, cbd ?????

Randomly everywhere, usually around overhead wires etc

if you have access to a old school type antenna (metal rod type) to test it with, like old ford one, plug it in and prop it up in the seat I can just about bet the one in the rear window is stuffed, most suck

even a newish mitsu VRX I drive around sometimes with a top of the line factory radio, and roof antenna does that same thing , around Adelaide. my old top of the line Pioneer did it in the R34 as well. but found the wires hacked from importer and rear ones disconnected off GPS unit in rear pillar.

don't throw the radio out yet, the antenna needs a ground plane to work right. what part of town do you live in down south ? might try amplified hidden model instead ?? or if your around one night at villi's look at it for you?

Hey troy, live west ish (Flinders Park) I maybe able to make it to villies this Friday depending on my missus going to a party. Be awesome if you could look at it.

I don't have a spare antenna anywhere either unfortunately. When i start the car im not sure but it sounds like an aerial extending but that could be a completely different component ;)

this is the one i have and i love it (never had a problem with it ) but you wont find a digital areal to get the tv working with all channels :P

it would be a cheap upgrade for you

the noise you hear is the ABS brakes running a test on the line pressure when you first drive off. 10-15 seconds after moving forward. on the GTT

I have a cheap upgrade antenna for Digital tv. lol works a treat but needs some fiddling to get it sorted.

thanks for the buttons to push for local/ distance

due to prior commitments I have been volunteered to go out to eat friday , so villi's is out mate. sorry.

I live 15 min from noarlunga , in the dirty south...lol

ok well the second thing to check (common problem ) is that they havend uses a metal bast tint on your rear window as this will affect your reception , also the adapter plug used to run an aftermarket radio tend to fall apart once pluged and unpluged a few times .

good luck .

also most eonon's are utter crap theres only 1 modle i have found to get worth its money !! the first and second ones i had were shit and the third was great !! the last one i just got for the wife is newer but alot harder to navigate the menues and settings but works fine

they do have support if you bought from one of the bigger sellers , and MSN to discuss any issues live.

had one that had out of date test maps, they FTP'd me the new version , no drama's

the plug above causes most problems or hacked installs

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
