Hi all, my v35 usually has this ticking sound when I accelerate from a standstill. It's usually just a "tick" when I step on the accelarator and that's it. No lost of power, no other issue.

Anyone has that same sound? Is this normal?

Help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Does it happen every time?

If it happens to the brake pedal, then it is normal as the V35 does self ABS check each time the you press the brake for the first time after starting the car. You will feel it when your foot is on the brake pedal.

Not all the time. I know which noise you are talking about. Yes, my car does that too and it's like a grinding noise when the car first reaches a speed of around 20kmh. The ticking noise I am talking about is different. It's a "tick" noise that happens just as the car starts moving from a standstill. From memories I think other cars has that sound too but may not be as loud.

No.. I'm talking about the 'tick' sound when you start moving..

taken from the v35 manual...

The anti-lock brake system consists of electronic sensors, electric pumps, and hydraulic solenoids controlled by a computer. The computer has a built-in diagnostic feature that tests the system each time you start the engine and move the vehicle at a low speed in forward or reverse. When the self-test occurs, you may hear a clunk noise and/or feel a pulsation in the brake pedal.

This could be the sound that you are talking about.

That sound comes from your rear right wheel. if you open the window you will hear that sound. Lets lubricate guidings when you take a wheel off. You won't be able to hear that sound if you spin a wheel when car on a jack.

Alvin, yes I know which noise you are refering to. This "tick" noise is a different sound to that. It's a sound that's when you release the brake and press the accelerator, there's a "tick" when the car start moving. Not when it has moved to a certain speed when the ABS test comes in.

Nick, I do think the noise probably comes from the rear. Not sure if it's the right wheel but when I lower the window, I do hear the "tick" sound coming from the rear. Any idea what's the reason and what I need to do to sort it or is it just a sound that I can ignore? Thanks!

Hi there, I've got that ABS check noise. and the tick noise you mention maybe because of the rear wheel bearing which is a simple problem , or just lube the rear axel and maybe it will gone. have a check in the garage... should be no big deal though...

Thanks for that Will! Anyone else has experience the same noise, please share! Or anyone has ideas of what it might be, do share too! Cheers!

Hey Nick, can you explain further on what I need to do to check this out? Thanks!

had something similar to this on my first V35: apparently it was very light surface rust on the driveshafts: they were cleaned and greased, and the sound never came back... Don't know if this is the same problem you have have, but it was a simple and easy fix...

Thanks Micah! Seems like most ppl are commenting that a simple lubricating work will do the trick! Planning to send the car into City Nissan after another 1 or 2k km, so see if that can be sorted out together. Or do you reckon it's a really simple DIY job?

Cheers!

I also have that 'tick' noise in my gt8, more noticeable when in man. mode and driving with haste, usually get the noise when I am braking firmly and down shifting usually dropping into second or first, then another tick when I accelerate hard.

I will give this clean and lube option a go.

Hey James, update me on how u get on with this! Been super busy at work and don't think I'll get the chance to do this til next month. So if you test it out and it works, I'll do it ASAP as well!

Cheers!

Hey guys... I've just done a pre-purchase inspection today (after 3 weeks having the car as I can't sort out a time with my dealer to get this done with the AA).

Turns out the tick sound is coming from the rear right brake. According to the inspector, it's due to a slightly loose clip on the brake pad which cause the tick sound. He said it's a minor issue and a easy quick fix so I'll probably get that sorted when I do my service or I was thinking I will perhaps discuss this with my dealer to see if he can sort it out quickly.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
