Just had a read of the Autospeed article from the current issue "R33 brain transplant".

Hopefully the owner of the car can comment on the article.

Knowling, mentioned the car was considerably quicker. Any figures?

How bad is the wheelspin?

How does the car feel, revving to 7500r.p.m?

Have you experienced other problems after the article was written?

Detonation problems?

Any plans for future mods? If so get them to do another article on the car.

just a bit of advice to ppl,i would recommend against putting any type of aftermarket efi computer on it other than japanese ones. The factory ecu can be sent over to japan and re mapped to produce staggering results.....this is true...i have seen it..i have done it.Just a bit of advice take it or not...

Why not? Do the Japs drink special joo-joo juice that makes them better tuners? I know at least 2 excellent efi tuners of Japanese imports, and I'm in the backwater town of Perth! There are more than capable tuners Australia wide.

And what the buggery is the point of sending an ecu off to be mapped when the afr of the actual engine can't be measured in real time? Makes it as useless as those plug'n'play replacement chip bollocks, doesn't it.

Don't forget that Australia is home to Haltech, Motec and Autronic - some of the biggest names in ECUs the world over.

The japanese companys like trust hks spend millions on development. They have off the shelf ecu's for a particular setup that works right out of the create, without blowing up engines and what not.Ofcourse they know there own computer systems better than us.And alsothe use of such aftermarket system dont allow alot of features that the fact ecu does......try getting an R34 GTRs drive system to run on a autronic......imposible.Also get these guys to tune the R34 computer....i dont think so.Japs build em they know how to mod em

ok take this into consideration......i got a supra for my friend and it had these mods....Trust T88 turbine kit, japanese aftermarket fuel pump+reg, sard injectors,2.0bar of turbo boost(although this was very dicey)It also had a host of aftermarket goodies in the shock department, brakes, gauges and all the rest of it.Now this thing ran on Pump gas and guess what type of ecu it had?????

Factory one rewritten by C.O.C.Kpit.Now when people seen this car perform on the dyno at autosalon, they couldnt beleive it had the factory ecu.Now the car produced 386RWKW at 22psi.The car has 90,000klms and its driven EVERYDAY.Now...the car is still performing strong, although another engine is being built for more power.....so if you know a tune shop that will tune the FACTORY ecu,i will challenge them to do it without ****ting the new engine...and the engine will have noshortcuts so it wont be because of faulty asembly componants.Whats there number?

Went into the for sale section. A few people are selling remapped r32 ecu's for r33's. Why don't they remap the r33 ecu for an r33?

So lets take the challenge, give the number of tuning shops that can remap factory ecu's better than the japaneese. Remaping the standard one, sounds a lot better than going for an aftermarket system.

With the R33 ECU's the chip is read only - can't be re-mapped.

BUT - you can (and they do) install daughterboards with a seperate EPROM that can be tuned.

Personnally I wouldn't bother about sending a ECU to Japan to get retuned.

One thing to remeber - how would HKS in Japan know if your injectors can only run at 80% safely? Do the places in Japan know that our 98RON fuels tend to differ slightly, which could be the difference between detonation or not? Do the places in Japan know what the climate is in Canberra, or in Darwin? There's a big temp difference there !!!

And I'm sure that would effect the tuning.

I've been with Hitman the famous Haltec tuner, while he has tuned a car. And he has done a amazing job. BTW: The Hitman does work all around the world - so why send something O/S when it can be done a few hours away?

There is one bloke on the performance forums that has found a good tuner in Sydney(?) that can tune daughterboards for the R33 computer, basically you just need a ROMReader.

Just my 2c.

Personally, I'd never reconmend off the shelf tuning fixes to anyone. Well, not to friends anway.

Well, no. It wouldn't I suppose. Although any tuner with half a clue would leave the factory ecu in place to do its job and wire up the aftermarket ecu to soley take care of fuel and ignition timing.

All this doesn't matter though, I don't want to promote aftermarket ecus. I think what you intended to say in you first post is that factory ecus are more than capable if they are suitably tuned. If this is so, I wholey agree. As revealed to me recently (by rev210), factory maps have had a huge number of hours spent on them spent perfecting low rpm drivability, and thats the sort of thing that just can't be replicated privately.

I can't help you find a jza80 tuner (this is a skyline forum, afterall), but I do know the 2JZ factory ecu can be mapped outside of Japan. A quick Google revealed http://jcp.excitewebpages.com/main.php3?pr...primNavIndex=0& who sell daughter boards for jza80's. They don't specify on the web page, but I assume they can custom tune for each car.

What I'm trying to say is, tuning jap cars can be done properly outside of Japan and comments like "i wouldnt trust anyone in aust to do it" just aren't fashionable any more.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
