Vicroads Inspection For Freshly Imported Vehicles

Recommended Posts

hi everybody,

I am new to the forums, and recently purchased a r34 gtt, fresh off the boat.

I now have a rwc for the car, but i know the mech has overlooked a few things like the standard xenons, dark window tint, and other stuff like that. apart from that the car is completely stock.

my question is, when i take the car to vicroads (sunshine), will they still perform a thorough inspection of the vehicle, eg. get it up on the hoist or will they simply czech the vin and the stickers and papers etc etc.

i know that in the past thats all they would do, but now apparently they are "comming down" on imports, and that they love knocking back skylines like 16 year olds with fake i.d's

another thing ive heard is that some offices are more lenient than others, geelong being easy, and sunshine being strict.

i took my freshly imported chaser to Dandenong vic roads with dark tints and factory xenons still connected. all they checks was if all numbers match and the paper works. checked the tyres and tyre placard and thats it.

i dont think they do an inspection where they put it up on a hoist and all that

agree...all they checked was the numbers of my car...i did mine in dandenong too.. :P .but i did hear other places put em up on hoist too like the one in burwood i think...close to that area...there they are very very strict....my mate with a 34gtt didnt pass coz he had one of the nismo gear knob...and they did put his car on the hoist.... :D

dont go to burwood then lol. i got mine registered at Broadmedows and she was great, she made sure all the numbers are correct and all the stickers are where they should be. filled out the forms and got my numberplates and rego sticker and i was done, all in just over 30 mins. and i still have the factory xenon's and a couple other things.

Seymour is heaps better for us..... so laid back :P

i was hoping sunbury would do it but they dont do imports so i had to call up to make an appointment and she said the closest ones were Broady or Seymour, so obviously i went Broady. you could rock up to Seymour with your car scraping the ground and your wheels poking out of the wheel arches and they will pass it no problem lol.

the one annoying thing with vicroads was having to pay to make the appointment it was 35 bux or something like that, thats just gay in my opinion.

Hi Guys,

Would anyone be able to lend me some rims/wheels or just rims and i can organise wheels for my R33 GTR.

Tried to get rego on Friday with my 18"s on but didnt get through because of the 18" rims. The next test is on Tuesday 17th August so if anyone could give me a txt on 0423 082 360 i would really appreciate it. Im from Melbourne in Northern Suburbs. I need 17" wheels.

Also which might help, I know its been posted in other forum topics and I have been reading them. But just to confirm what other car rims should fit the 33gtr. Would the 33gtst with 17"s fit? or 34gtt?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

This VicRoads, that VicRoads, who cares. Depending on the person doing the inspection is the major issue. Their mood of the day probably means more than anything else.

Same as the courts of Australia, totally dependant of the moody a$$hat behind the desk.

The actual place is not much of a concern really.

I've heard people get through here/there, and people failing the next month @ the very same place for nothing.

Pick somewhere and go. You pass, lucky, you dont' - thats just how it goes.

That said i did mine @ Frankston, 10mins in/out. Just checked the VIN & Engine numbers matched with the engineers cert/RWC.

Burwood vicroads does not have a hoist only an inspection bay.... so there is not possible chance of being checked on a hoist.

its always about person you get though. i always go to burwood sometimes i get some tosser then i just got back in line an pray i dont get same person again since alot of them are quiet dumb when it comes to defects.. works most of the time. although i have seen dandy are fairly easy. like Ash said. its based on luck.

cleared a defect on fellow SAU members R33 ages ago.. the chick had to check front parkers but instead she checked the rear brake lights.. so im sure your bound to be fine with inspection

I have taken all my cars there and never had a problem, although i do know that there is one particular guy there that knows his shit and hates mdified cars so he always looks more closely at them.

LOL we must have got the same girl. When I got minor defected for headlights (HIDs) she didn't even ask me to turn them on for her, just looked at the headlight glass and marked it off. Asked me what I got defected for, I said HID lights...she said "what are they?" :ermm: Might as well have left my HIDs in...

Conversely, she made a note that my front parkers were slightly different in colour to each other and that this is a defectable item...

    • Ahhh, I need the whole head unit. I definitely needed to roll back through and review your setup, ha ha! Neat setup they have going on. I just need a full double din head unit. But I want good and responsive. I might have to review what the likes of pioneer have out these days.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
