R32 Gts-t.

i've just been bench-testing my coils, and in particular checking output voltages. does anyone know what the voltage should be? and whether it should stay consistent throughout the rev range?

at idle they seem to sitting around 28,000 volts and as rpm climbs up around midrange, voltage drops down to around 10,000 volts, then most the coils were back up to ~15,000 V by top end (the driver i have for them only outputs up to approx 5500-6000rpm) so beyond that rpm i haven't been able to test.

ideally i'd like to hear from someone who's tested brand new coils and compare results. i'm not optimistic about my coils, they are old so not expecting great things from them. if new coils maintain a consistent voltage throughout the rev range then im putting new coils on the shopping list.

this is how the readout went, the volume and pitch of the spark noise goes up and down with the firing rate. basically just started at idle, went to top, then back down to idle. so you get an idea how the voltage changed.

the only info on the splitfire coils i could find is for the sr20det

here is the link to their page with the info:

http://www.splitfire.com/splitv_disystem_nissan.html

So according to graph 2 i think they are saying that the normal/stock sr20det coils output a stable 20 millijoules up to 8000 rpm, whereas the splitfires output around 30 millijoules.

I also found some info on the ls coils, but he has only measured the peak secondary current and of course is in a different unit of measurement:

"On the LS1 coil there is around 40 milliamps of peak secondary current with 5 milliseconds of dwell time. On the LS2/truck coil (AC Delco D585), there is 120 milliamps!"

this info is from:

Maybe some people better versed in electronics can help us out...

So I'm slowly easing myself back into the groove, the car is literally scaring me a bit tbh.....it feels like it has 200hp more than it does on paper and responds like a cammed Ls v8, and-some! 馃槄 every single bit of throttle pedal travel and input has instant response all the way to the floor, zero flat spots or labouring feelings, it's nuts. • If the house has ever been sold before too, they have photos from that etc.
    • I used to do that, but then I got savvy. The benefits of having your phone photos geotagged outweigh the negatives. I just don't publish any photo straight off the phone/out of the gallery/off google photos, etc. If I'm going to use a photo, other than for SMSing to fam, I will always open it on the computer, copy it/otherwise edit it and save down without the original metadata, before using it. For example, posting photos of my engine bay into a thread on here, to show someone a plug or something - I will just screen-cap the section I want to use and paste that section direct from the clipboard into the post. No metadata goes along with.
