My NM35 Stag was only imported to melbs in november 09 so it hasnt even been in country a year.

It came with 17 x 235 x 45 tyres branded "Autogaurd" on the stocky 5 spoke 17 nissan rims ,

They work fine. just damn noisy on aussie roads with a constant whining that sounds like a jet plane.

Anyone else get this issue with Jap tyres ?

Is it a compound thing?

Anyway ..anyone suggest a reasonably priced tyre for the stag in the 17inch flavour?

Should i change rim size to the 18's or the 19's and is it true with NM35 stags (hicas inparticular) they perform worse with 18's and throw out the suspension?

old tyres are often noisy because the rubber has gone hard. and you should replace the tyres in this case. the wheel choice won't affect noise much - if anything a lower profile tyre would give you more though.

Tyre noise is caused by the tread design, not the compound, also if the tyres are very noisey it probably means that they are unevenly worn.

There are a number of reasons that tyres can become noisey but the most common is uneven tyre wear. Have a close look at the tread blocks, if they have a slight 'lip' on one edge then they need to be rotated to wear them flat again.

are they actually japanese tyres? go back to whoever complied it and remind them they have to fit new tyres at compliance by law

I dont think that is quite right Duncan.

Tyres need to have a D.O.T marking on them to meet compliance. No DOT marking no compliance. I brought my car from Japan with tyres bought in Japan , and queried qld transport before arriving to detrmine what was required.

not my understanding....AFAIK sevs always requires new tyres. there may be some other imports like rally use, pre 88 or personal imports where they only have to be "roadworthy" were DOT would be OK.

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
    • Yes sir am asking is there possible way from aem tuner from wiring pins
    • Have you checked cam to crank timing and confirmed balancer marks are correct?
