Hi All,

Well, I used to think that if a cop pulls you over for a reason, usually it would be for a legitimate reason. All of that changed today  I exited from the Hyatt car park today without a seat belt. But as soon as I was moving, I put on my seat belts. Unbeknown to me, there was a Police car traveling in the opposite direction.

Anyway, he saw me pulling the belts on as I was driving. After trailing me all the way to Riverside drive, he decided to pull me over and. Gave me a $150 fine, 3 demerit points and then on top of that gave me a yellow sticker to finish it off for having a GT wing, air pod and large exhaust without permits.

His reason for the GT wing was hilarious. Aftermarket wings are dangerous because if I run over someone, and by chance they get flung onto the bonnet, roof and then roll to the back they might get lodge between the GT-wing and the boot !!! heheheh .. I asked him if he know what the original wing looks like. He answered ‘no’.. I didn’t really want to explain that it had a huge gap as well, that a person could also get lodge in between.

My question to you guys is. At the pit inspection, would they only check the defected items or will they go through the whole car?? I’m asking because I’ve got a bucket seat which I think are not legal and is a pain to remove.

Thanks

Richard.

pod is allowed if it is fastened down like with a bit of metal holding it to the car body off the bracket. then you can get a permit for it then. :P

you can get a permit for your wing aswell and then they have to leave you alone. but if you cant get over the pits with it then just take it off then put it back on in a month... :)

do you have a cat in your exhaust? if so i cant see the huge problem...maybe put a silencer on it for when you go over the pits?

u can have 1 bucket on the drivers side but not 2.the passenger one must be reclining.

and whore king gtst vspec got his wing passed.and urs is lower than his.i guess its got to do with the width than anything else

its easy to get permit for air filter, just gotta make the bracket so its securely fastened

dont think it will be a drama to pass urs so no worries

you'll be rather surprised, at the phucking inconsitency between the cops and the pits, what ever the cops get ya for on the yellow, most of the time the pits laugh and say hmmm dunno why they picked u for that, the pits are rather soft on exhausts now, just double check ur tint is legal, ur steering wheel sin't obstructing view of the dials, all ur lights and indicators are working, tyres have decent tread etc apart from that if they wanna be pricks they'll pick on little things dude :)

adrian :P

I think that sounds like a good idea.

If i got hit by a car and rolled onto the roof, i would prefer to get stuck on hte boot rather than crack my head by falling back onto the road, or worse getting run over by the car behind. ;)

What annoyed me most was that they told me they were reasonable so I had hope that they would understand my predicament when I explained to them. But in the end all they seem to want, were to get me on technicality ( as soon as two front wheels are on the road I’m obligated to have the belts on), and then pinged me for not having a permit for the aftermarket stuffs.

Just wondering how come the engineers at the pit didn’t tell/encourage me to get the permits just in case I run into a cop with attitudes?

Times like these I wonder if these guys are doing there job to drive the safety message home or was it just a case of demonstrating their power in society.

The wing is fairly straight forward and as long as its not too wide or sharp, you will be ok.

POD they will give u a permit for on the day, as long as its secure.

Exhaust depends on attitude... They DO pass loud exhausts that dont hang to low etc, if the attitudes right.... DONT go there saying F#%KING cops pulled me over and stuffed me over. They already KNOW this, just relax and listen to what they say and agree with them.... When i had my yellow cleared by my mate at the pits the other day, this came up with a couple of silvia drivers...

Ride height and tinting they look at. Tires also. BOV is a BIG one too. Thats the only thing i HAD to take off :D

That said, i've heard by family friends who work at a couple of the pits that Midland is pretty good on a friday arvo :)

hahaha what are they teaching in the academy these days

if you dont know something make it up

I took the Supra over the pit and failed !!!

My front indicators were missing after I put on the Varis bodykit. *FAILED*

The window wiper motor didn't squirt any water. *FAILED*

GT-Wing *FAILED* .. Err anyone would like to buy a Top Secret carbon fibre GT-wing ???

Front tyres needs to be replace *FAILED*

I managed to get the permit for the exhaust, bucket seat, and air-pod.

I'm begining to sense that the cops are sending me down to the pit to keep the pit engineers in a job ..

I dont think youve got any reason to complain, sounds like perfectly logical things theyve picked you up on. The picture in your avatar clearly shows the wing is wider than the cars cabin, no wonder its deemed illegal.

As for turning up for an inspection with bald tyres and no indicators on the front... well, you deserved that.

Ive heard of people who've encountered greater injustices than yours in regards to defect notices anyway.

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
    • Shock tower brace is in +5Kw....LOL
