Hi everyone,

I've recently joined SAU but 2 years ago I had a R34GTT 4 door skyline and my best mate took it for a drive and smashed it to pieces. So, in my desperation of getting to university and back, I had to buy something else with his payout and unfortunately went with a really bad decision and bought a European car.

So now I'm at the point where I can no longer afford to spend a cent more on it because whenever I fix one part, another part just crashes.

I'm looking at a 4 door V35 250GT to get myself back into the Skyline era (which is immortal in its own right).

So, I was hoping if you all could give me a few ideas on how easy it is to find parts should anything go wrong and how expensive/cheap they are. I want to know that the parts to buy for these cars are readily available and cheap within Australia so I don't blow my load on another expensive car to maintain.

Any suggestions, advice, comments and love would be appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

I don't really know much about 250GT.

I do have a V35 350GT coupe (which is the same as 350GT sedan). Parts and problems wise, I had a window motor failure at first which is common in V35's, but my dealer fixed that up for me. You might be looking at fixing a few things up when you first bought it depending on how the car is before but after that, it's all good. Make sure you buy it from respectable dealer or person.

Good luck.

whats with the love of the 4 door option? (apart from a bit of ease of use)

considered 2 doors?

Hey mate,

Thanks for writing back - Yeah I just enjoy 4 doors better and it's easier to commute people. I'm also under the impression that 2 doors are more expensive to buy and I would only consider one if it was manual - just personal preference.

Hi Victor,

Just wanted to say thanks for your advice. I got the car inspected by a tertiary inspection company and they said it was in top notch condition except for the tyres which may need replacing in about 5-6 months. I decided to go ahead and purchase it and I just picked it up on Friday after compliance. So far everything's perfect.

Cheers mate!

Hi Doruk,

You are welcome. It's good news you got it checked out and things look ok. Any drama, just post up and I am sure someone will be able to help you out.

Don't forget to post photo as well. :(

One other thing, is the car with 8 speed CVT with paddle shifters? If so, they are abit troublesome and make sure you check that out as well.

Holy thread revival i know... but im struggling to find some info on these cars and just wanted to ask the right people!!

How do these cars actually go compared to past skylines?

Are they a sport car or a luxry car?

How do they go against a 350z or 370z?

Are they expensive to modify and are there many companies that supply after market parts?

Turboing looks to be a little out of the price range from what I looked at.

What I am sort of looking for is a fun car for the weekends that I can enjoy and not see heaps of them on the road. Which is why this came to mind.

Cheers,

Hi mate,

1. I can compare to my "stock" V35 coupe (350GT) to my friend's "stock" R34 GT-T coupe.

V35 are better at everyday driving. Interior is alot nicer and newer, exterior is also more refined but lost its Skyline heritage.

R34GT-T are faster and can have fun around corners and on track.

2. V35 are more laxury car. You will know this straight away after being in both cars.

3. V35 compare to 350Z...it is bigger, has 4 seats, bigger boot space and more unique. But it's slower and bad at resale than Z.

V35 compare to 370Z...it's another class. Maybe comparable to V36.

4. V35 are more expensive to modify, in terms of chasing more power. To extract more power from NA engine, you will have to spend nearly twice than turbo cars.

There are lots of companies now than before that supply aftermarket parts as V35/G35 are becoming more common and popular.

You said "What I am sort of looking for is a fun car for the weekends that I can enjoy and not see heaps of them on the road. Which is why this came to mind."

I said "V35 or R32/33/34 GTR is your choice, depending on what you want to do with it, now and in the future."

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Victor.

I just found the V35 link as well, so I am reading up on a few of the forums there. (feeling a little dumb as i didnt see that before the first post).

One thing i like about this model skyline is you dont see a thousand of them a day. Even 350z's are heaps common now days.

You are welcome, Mitch.

Tell you the truth, I have never seen and didn't know anything about V35 before I bought it more than 2 years ago. I was after a turbo car back then, like Evo and GT-T, but I saw one at dealer, sat in it and never looked back. Now, I am even scare to lose this comfy level of driving if I decided to go for a turbo car.

But yeah, V35 are still rarer than Zeds, but it's getting there. I also like the fact that it has four seats, bigger boots and also share lots of same parts as 350Z.

Any question, ask away as there are many experienced V-series owners already on SAU.

Good luck with it, Mitch. Please let us know how your decision go.

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
