Hello

I have my first FMIC that I am going to fit onto my car.

I have stock turbo, Twin front pipe, stock cat, 3 in exhaust from cat back, and a pod. I have a RB25 turbo that I have not put on yet.

What other supporting mods should I put on now that I have a FMIC. I will buy a boost controller soon to up the boost.

Help please

Why do I need a computer for this? Why do I need the bigger fuel pump? More fuel?

Standard fuel pumps are known to fail. It's cheap insurance.

If you upgrade to the rb25 turbo, keep the boost low untill you get it on a dyno.

Once you up the boost, you may need some GTR injectors a Z32 AFM and a programable ecu such as a nistune.

Or you can just leave the stock turbo on and enjoy it for what it is.

Cheers

Justin

you dont have to but if you want the most out of it and you want to tune out the throttle response that you loose when you fit the FMIC, the piggyback (or remap) will let you do that. the fuel pump is a good insurance plan as its likely the stock one wont keep up with the required flow rate

Fuel pump is a must, don't want a dying old one to cost you an engine! I'm a fan of 044's mounted in tank and know personally of such a set up supporting over 500rwhp.

When I had my RB20, the stock ECU handled 14psi through the stock turbo and 12psi through the RB25 turbo, after looking at the stock maps they are more tolerant than 33gtst's but not as tolerant as 34gtt's. You're looking at somewhere around 250rwhp untuned and probably a fair bit more after a tune.

NIStune is also (IMO) your best option for management.

yeah i would of got a new fuel pump before i spent money on an intercooler..Fuel pump and a boost T, run it at 10-14psi, whatever works best, would of been more powerful and still responsive..

So I need a bigger fuel pump if I up the boost on the stock turbo. A Nistune or piggy back will give me the most out of it.

If I upgrade to a Rb25 turbo than I might have to have bigger injectors and a Z32 afm?

If I only up the boost on the 20 turbo, how much HP can I expect without a tune?

Where can I get a Nistune? I live in Japan but if is easier to order it from Australia, than I will.

Upgrading to an RB25 turbo won't need bigger injectors or afm.

On stock RB20 turbo mine was making ~200rwhp on 14psi untuned.

http://www.nistune.com/ but seeing that you're in Japan there should be a multitude of tuners that can remap the RB20 ECU!

What you mean by that? The r34 stock ecu sucks a fat one when it comes to upping the boost it just dumps tons of fuel in the motor

The TP load limit values in the stock maps have a higher threshold up until about 5000rpm when it tapers down and is similar to R32 and R33. R32 handles more in the mid range than the R33.

If you're reaching the load limit, NIStune it already.

So I need a bigger fuel pump if I up the boost on the stock turbo. A Nistune or piggy back will give me the most out of it.

You dont NEED it, but every old car i have ever owned has benefited from a better fuel pump..

Upgrade the fuel pump, there are plenty of drop in options (nismo/sard etc) or even a low km GTR fuel pump.

Put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on and pump up the base pressure 8-10psi.

Put the rb25 turbo on (as long as it's in good condition).

Add a boost controller.

Replace the stock cat with a 'test' pipe... or bigger cat. Even a good condition GTR cat is good.

Have someone re-flash the stock ecu.... You will soon find out how much boost you can run untill you run out of available fuel delivery (injector duty cycle). For reliability I wouldn't run the rb25 turbo much more than 12psi anyway.

Nistune is a great option, but might be more than you need for simple upgrades. If your planning on more upgrades down the track, then it's perfect.

You'll also find you will need a new clutch.

Can I do the mods and flash the computer later?

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
