Had a good day on Sunday at the TCC Supersprint:)

Managed 4th outright out of 60 entries with a 1:07.7, 1st & 2nd was the Juno LMP3 running 57s and 1:02s eek.gif and 3rd was the Twin Turbo 1uzfe Celica on full slicks (got me by .1 of a sec)

The splitter held up well despite being 80mm of the deck and ripple strips. a definite improvement on the last one.

I have decided to chase more mechanical grip as all the car wants to do is slide under power, so a few things are on the cards. Im picking up a stagea rear subrame tonight, after tax im going to get a set of wider offset rims and some slicks

some pics from the wend

Well, not much done lately.

25 box is in, s3 auto cross member for ease of installation J. Just waiting on the new yoke and uni to show up.

For the slave cylinder, I went down this path… http://forum.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?topic=148153.0

I’ll let you know how it feels once its bled.

Size difference between standard and hilux

Gear lever was cut down in the past. Tapped a new thread on to it and attached a new gear knob. Tread locked so it doesn’t come loose (hopefully)

And lastly, while at the last sprint day I was told/recommended to put on end plate/fence? on the edges of the splitter.

Again this is a temp/test one so don’t judge too harshly... eventually it’ll just be a 31house bar with a splitter. to be painted..

Cheers mate ;)

R33 gearbox is finally all finished, not because of any issues – just laziness on my part.

The pedal feel is definitely softer with the bigger slave, maybe my left leg wont be as worn out tongue.gif and I must say, bleeding clutch lines is a bitch!

New front Ferodo DS3000’s are done. Don’t rate the fit though as I had to shave down 2mm off each pad and enlarge the retaining bolt hole to get them to fit.

The old pads are a “performance street” pad and didn’t last too long. 1 hillclimb/motorkhana thing and 1 sprints day. About 30 laps of wakie all up, I may of heat spotted them too…

2012-08-11111932.jpg

And I have added some 25mm Bolton spacers to the rear and raised it 1/2in to try and gain more rear traction.

Finally some decent fitment on the rear, fronts came too close to the guards and would foul when cornering i think.

Looking forward to the Fatz’ Mini superlap this wend to blow the webs out before Nats next month.

well looks like i fcuked the LH axle CV joints at Marulan on the weekend. So if anybody has one for sale let me know pls otherwise i'll have to put out of the Nats trackday sad.gif

Other than that, i had a good day. Got down to a 45.112 which isnt bad for my first time there. Ran without the splitter as i didnt want to smash another on their mountains/ripple strip/curb things.

I think that the syncro in 2nd might be on its way out, will not go into it unless you rev match on are at a standstill.

over exposed vid from session 4 shows how slippery these tyres are till they warm up.

you can see how much lower the splitter is.

Turns out the retaining curclip on the LH axle inner CV had popped off. so i pulled the axle out put the clip back in in its place, fitted the axle back up and filled up the oil on friday, with the intention of doing an engine oil change and a test drive on saturday. But due to a flat battery

and my charger going missing i wasn't able to start it til lthis arvo and have found that the exhaust manifold gasket has poopped itself. Axle circlip seems to have fixed the banging issue though.

other issues so far have included a missing gbox oil breather line dunno.gif and oil filter that took 30min to get off and giving me a mad blood blister in the process. 1st world problems i guess.

going to give Garage 7 a call tomorrow and see if i can get one overnight. no treally looking forward to pulling the turbo off 4 days before Nats...

Ended up making it to the Natioanls, had a great time too - really well run event.

The turbo gasket was stuffed and the manifold had a crack in it inthe end as well. Got it all running by friday, talk about cutting it close!

Waterlines are going to be redone in braided or steel after this weekend. the condition of them scared me a little when i pulled the turbo off.

The tax man is going to be generous this year so im thinking of getting a new boot from Fatz

+ the 31house style front bar.

Time for a new beanie too

Everything fixed now :)

1st outing, struggled to get heat into the tyres.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khOf1atMQIk

2nd and 3rd will be done tonight.

4th outing with off track due to flatspot/lockup at the end of the straight.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LQn-bL0NWc

This is the reason the car was vibrating/shaking all day, made it very understeery through RH corners. think it may have been why i went off at the end of the day too.

Front right, rest of the tyre has 4-5mm deep tread.

last two vids

2nd session, @ 5min watch the the gtr's take off and at the end of the straight the puff of dust from the 35 overtaking Blue on the grass.

3rd sesion, Lap 6 @7.32 is my best for the day - 1:08.06

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VrTGmtEwPw

I’ve seen something interesting from the weekend…

My car

- 1:08.0, RB30DET makes 315kw (423hp), 1200kg, Aero (splitter and wing)

Drivetrain

-R33 5 speed Gear box

-Rebuilt exedy 5-puk with 4000lbs clamp load and karbonic pads

-single piece shaft

-KAZZ 2-way

-4.3:1 Final Drive ratio

Skip to 7:35 for the quick lap.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VrTGmtEwPw

Sexy Daves GTS1

- 1:10.0, N/A VQ35 makes 188kw(253hp), 1200-1250kg, standard body (airdam and spoiler)

Drivetrain

- 350Z 6 speed gear box

- Exedy lightweight single-mass flywheel

- Exedy 5 puck button clutch

- Carbon Fibre single piece tail shaft

- Kaaz 1.5way LSD, machined for 75lb preload

- 4.11:1 final ratio

On our best laps both leave turn 10 at 60kmh with no wheel spin and hit 177kmh (via Datalogger) down the straight at the same spot before we both back off through the kink.

Any idea why even though theres 127kw difference our top speed on the straight is the same? maybe his drivetrain vs my downforce/drag?

Hmmm, yeah. have had a few ppl now tell me the dyno might be reading high...

Would be interesting to see daves car go on a weighbridge, esp since the motor/gbox combo is so light too!

so anyways, i have fitted the rims from Partycat on. Hopefully with muffin top slick they fill out the flares some what.

I have received some mad tax back, and am trying to spend it before the wife finds out!

Have ordered so far;

New slicks

R31house front lip and flares from Flatz

solid gearbox mount

z31bitz V2 diff mount

battery isolater cable

and a sheet of Alupanel (two sheets of aluminium sandwiching a sheet of neoprene. Thats right, no more plywood splitter. Found out my brother-in-law gets it fairly cheap. Light (a 2200x1800mm panel is 12kg) and very stiff (i cant flex or bend a 300x300mm piece)

Nice! Lol at spending before the wife finds out!

Keep us updated on the splitter, a lot of cars at wtac were using similar materials. I assume the brother in law gets it via sign writers or similar?

Wheels look good, what are the specs and where from?

The old 31 is looking good man, love the wheels.

Can't wait to see what you do next.

I think I need a racecar of my own :(

cheers man. should see if you can get your old MR2 back ;) that'd be fun

  • 4 weeks later...

Been slack after nats, havent done a thing to it till last night.

Made a Gurney Flap at 4% hight

2012-10-09215745.jpg

started making the wing/boot supports.

2012-10-09215832.jpg

and new bits ready to go on. just waiting on the lip and i'll make the new splitter.

2012-10-09215906.jpg

Im doing a airport run at the end of the month, which im going to use to test out what effects the aero (splitter/wing) at speed. six runs, so the first two i'll do with nothing, 3rd with just the wing, 4th with just the splitter and the last two with both.

Just need a little black paint and some nutserts into the floor

Diff mount in

2012-10-19105502.jpg

Rear swaybar with superpro bushes

2012-10-19105519.jpg

Front sway bar is on and gearbox mount done - anyone know what the three settings are like in relation to the standard one? I.e., is the softest setting the same as standard?

New lip fitted – trying to workout how to mount the splitte rwith it as the bar/lip has about 10mm rake (front higher that rear). The car is also raked so the front is lower so it’d be worse if I happened to level out the car.,

Picture for pictures sake

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
