Looking at building a new engine for my Stagea. Due to its kerb weight of approx 1750kg's the Rb30/25 sounds like a good option.

I live ine Queensland and get it approved, but do not want to limit a future of the car one day to just Qld buyers

It is a 8/98 model car, but rb30 block will be an 1986-88 model. It is also AWD so a bit more work is needed compared to going Rb26 which was a factory option in the 260RS, so it can or will be legal in all states.

I have already bought half the rebuild parts need for Rb30, but could always resell them and buy another rb26

Not concerned about costs in swapping everything over from what I currently have

Opinions wanted

the engine cant be older than the car, however as it covers in the thread ash linked all the emissions relevant gear is part of the head/external to the engine itself. so as long as the head is not of an older series than that which came with the car its ok in that respect.

As said above the emissions must meet with what ever is newest, in your case the car.

If you were to put a NEO 25 into a 240Z the emissions are based on the motor because it is the newer of the 2.

The rules are a lot more relaxed in qld than they are in the southern states from what I understand. You wouldnt believe what you can do up here if you have a good engineer on side.

All this talk ive heard about the inter state rules being all bought into line will change things. Weather its for the worse or better who can say. They cant revoke cars that are already approved in QLD, but they can certainly stop new cars from being re-engined.

They did that a few years ago with VW's and the old Myers Manx rebody conversions. It used to be classed as a re-bodied 1968 vehicle which meant it just had to meet the emissions of that era. Now to do the same conversion its done under ICV rules, so you have to somehow get a 1940's designed engine to pass emissions. In a sense its the governments way of 1. preventing vehicle modifications, and 2. getting old vehicles off the road.

May sound like a little extra work but, Pull you standard engine out, clean it and wrap it up in your garage somewhere, put your sexy 3.0 litre in and then when the time comes, you can drop the orginal engine you have stowed safely away back in.

Forgive me if I've misunderstood your post but if you're suggesting that the stocker be installed for compliance purposes and the 30 be installed for driving duties, as stated in the linked thread:

When you crash and kill someone let us know how the arse raping goes.

Wrong, just WRONG.

An older engine CAN go into a newer car, BUT you must bring emmision standards up to the of the car.

Read the regulations, they clearly state it can be done, but there is an advisory to use a new motor in an old car as the emmisions will just have to meet the motor...

The engine is one factor too. How do the engineers feel about spacers under the cross member to lower the RB30's so they actually fit the cars? Because technically it does interfere with steering and suspension geometry at little...

I think you did misunderstand it a bit mate as he isn't complying his car, he already owns it from what I can interpret from his original post.

What I was trying to say and perhaps was a little shady on, is that his goal is to retain a buyer market including people from all the states of Australia.

Therefore, he may remove the standard engine, perform the swap to RB30 (which is legal in Queensland, as he has stated) and simply store the original engine to be re swapped back into his vehicle, when and if he choose to sell it, thus making it eligible for sale in all other states.

RB30 swaps.... No soap dropping, No homo

When I wrote compliance I wasn't referring to complying the car I was referring to complying with the law re RB30s and rego etc. Confusing choice of words on my behalf. Also thought you were replying to Zebra not Darrin. Thanks for clarifying I see your point now.

All good, no problems mate. :(

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
