Hey Guys,

I'm new to Skylines Aus. as I searched the net for a possible answer for my problem.

My R33 seems to be misfiring when its under load or around 3 quarter boost to full boost. I can only feather the accelerator as when I give it a boot full, it kicks and splutters and backfires.

If anyone else has had this problem, please comment as I miss my beast goin hard!!! lol

Cheers

Could be a number of things, but this heat recently wont be helping.

Id check coil packs as a priority, then maybe spark plugs. You said R33 S2, so you dont have a separate ignitor module if im correct?? If im wrong, ignitor module would be a good place to look also.

The only other thing would be what octane fuel are you running it on??

Unrelated question....you wouldnt happen to live around St Clair (NSW) & drive a white R33 S2 would you??

the only reason you would need to regap plugs to .8 is if the coilpacks are tired, if your coilpacks are fine you run standard gap.

if you have the original coilpacks, i suggest taping them up, or buying some new ones, factory coilpacks get tired beyond 100,000km

i was having the same issues, i changed to splitfires, problem solved

Some people gap there plugs (including myself) to .8 on higher than standard boost. This is why i asked what boost he was running. On higher than standard boost engines, the more boost pressure tends to blow out the spark because of the gap being too big making the spark jump all over the place. (Hence why its breaking down). A little trick Denzo told me about a while ago.

Coilpacks maybe another fault. Its a trial and error problem.

Thanks lads.

I'm running only 7psi of boost I've never adjusted it, but i will be sure to check out the coil packs at night, it should look like a circus under the hood with the cover off if the sparks leaking!!

And for the first comment, nah sorry i'm in Batlow near Wagga Wagga, drivin a gold repsray R33 with a JUN body kit, black hood and side mirrors, aftermarket front mount, stock turbo with a HKS BOV and an Xforce 3 1/2 inch exhaust. And HRS Pegasus Black rims, 19s.

Got 130,000 clicks on the odo, but I bought it with 115,000.

Will post a pik soon

Ah cool man. Its funny cos theres a local guy here who is on green P plates & drives a white S2 R33, it was misfiring like all business the other day when he went past....good luck with it man. My money would be on coil packs for sure by the sound of things....

Cant wait for a pic :D

if they're only breaking down under load, then this wont work. having the vehicle stationary and revving it in neutral wont create any boost, and therefore no load, and the the spark will probably get through just fine. if you do manage to get the light show with no load on the engine then yeah the coil is well and totally had it

Haha unfortunate, but now I don't feel so bad :(

Any idea where I can get some decent coil packs for a decent price?? Splitfire's if possible.

I had a look on Just Jap (which is a sweet site if you donit already know about it (www.justjap.com) and splitfires are around $650 but if thats wat it takes to get my car running perfect well then I'll just have to break the piggy bank once again. I hate ebay by the way, ya really don;t know what your getting sometimes

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
