Hi Folks, my v35 300gt sedan is in bad need of some new shocks. So I was wondering if anyone on here knew what my options are. I heard the 350z shocks and coils fit, but I also read that they lower the car approx 1 inch. Normally this would be ideal, however this is my wife's car and she already complains about it scraping on big speed humps and spoon drains. While we don't want to lower it we do want to stiffen it up. Both of us prefer hard suspension.

So what are my options ?

Are the 350z shocks the same, but with lowered coils ? Or are the shocks actually different ?

Could I use G35 sedan shocks from the US ? Like these

or are there local options from the likes of bilstein or koni ?

Cheers

Hi,

I have just swapped the lowered springs in our 300GT over to 350Z springs due to it dragging everything over speed humps, etc and its now fine. Just go with standard height Z stuff.

There are pics here in the V section showing the difference between Z and factory springs on a sedan. Just do a search.

Cheers

Get some low mileage suspension from a 350gt-8.

Hello, I purchased a sports suspension (shocks and springs) from a 350GT-8 for my 300GT. The suspension actually raised the car by 10mm but improved the handling immmensely.

I had picked up some unrevised 350z springs but decided against using them as it would have lowered the car by at least 10mm and I was rubbing on to many driveways as it were.

The sports suspension is the same spring rate as the 350z.

Regards.

thanks for the replies guys.

for anyone else following this thread here is the pictures of the sedan with 350z suspension.

apparently a 1" drop. Doesn't look it in the images though.

I don't really want secondhand shocks, so the GT-8 stuff is out, unless I buy new from Nissan.....if I wont the lottery.

Im still trying to find out if the tokico G35 shocks will fit, I suspect they will, but Im concerned they are for the coupe and not the sedan and I dont want the drop.

I looked at importing some shocks from www.shox.com. Here is their US pricing. They mentioned the part numbers were different for the G35 and V35. I don't believe they are.

TOKICO - Shocks HP $279.00

Tokico DSP adjustables $589.00

Sets of 4 F&R

DHL shipping $149.00

The Infiniti G35 started in 2003 in the U.S.

Koni lists different part numbers for the 2001 Skyline and the 2003-2007 G35 Are you sure they will fit?

Regards

The Tociko blue shocks should fit our sedans...the skyline v35 sedan and the infiniti g35 sedan are the essentially the same car.... parts are interchangeable. I've got RSR down springs in my sedan and I'm hopefully going to change my shocks to Tokico once my stock shocks go. The Tokico blue shocks are pretty much OEM spec

I havent got much further with this as I need to measure the shocks and I cant really afford to have this car off the road too long.

So Ive decided to go with the 350z suspension option.

Can anyone confirm that all I need is 4 shocks and 4 coils ?

are any of the bushes or brackets different ?

Make sure you get '05 350z springs, with earlier the arse end will sag a bit more.

Cheers

I see that the 04.5-06 coils have a higher spring rate than the earlier ones.

interesting.

thanks for referencing my post...

if u go for 350z suspension on a sedan, you will get some camber on the rear. However, it's not very bad and shouldn't give u camber wear on the tyres. It does make cornering a bit more stable.

I do suggest, that when u drop it, to go a bit wider on the rims. I would go no more than 8.5"...it will improve the handling of the sedan dramatically around corners...

Of course, my advice is just that - do your own research.

But then again, the GT8 standard suspension gives a really good and refined ride. I noticed what I was missing out on when I reinstalled my GT8 suspension when I sold the car. I'd probably wouldn't got for 350z suspension in hindsight...but then again, I don't own a V35 anymore...

What was it you didnt like about the 350z suspension ? by refined do you mean it was too hard ?

My wife and I both prefer hard suspension, probably because we both corner too hard :)

I agree the gt8 suspension is nice its just way to high. Eibach pro kit springs for the g35 are said to be the best compromise when lowering these cars.

I have 350z track spec dampers and cobra springs it handles unbelievably well but is firm. I have the track spec springs aswell but i think they are just to firm for a decent ride.

As the buyer of that suspension from siu_loong_bao and having it fitted and running in my Sedan for last 5 months or so

It is the best suspension I could have bought..

350Z on the sedan is great at cornering, being the hardest sports suspension to be fitted in a standard car.

The car does have the Highway bounce effect as i think this one is an unrevised one make sure you pick post 05 suspension.

siu_loong_bao: Thanks the parts were in great condition indeed!

    • I saw you mention this earlier and it raised a red flag, but I couldn't believe it was real. Yes, the vacuum signal should vary. It is the one and only load signal from the engine to the ECU, and it MUST vary. It is either not connected or is badly f**ked up in some way.
    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
