Hi All

Here is a video of my Silvia running at a dirt lap dash in Coffs Harbour.

It is being driven at the time by a mate who is an ex nsw clubman rally champ

The car is a Nissan Silvia, CA18DET, 244rwkw and has run an 11.93@115mph. It is running on road tyres

Is great fun, Is located in Coffs Harbour on the North Coast, just near the airport. The track is actually a motorcycle flat track and we have permission to use

The event is run by the Coffs Harbour & District Sporting Car Club, we plan on doing 3 to 4 events this year, the first of which is tomorrow.

The event is run under a AASA permit and is a multiclub event.

The start and finish has been changed to make things safer, we are now starting/finishing on the back straight so we dont have the high speed into the sweeper. I think it will make things better. We are entering the sweeper at 110-120 in the silvia, and we cant afford a car to go into the wall.

I am not competing tomorrow but will be an official, I will try to get some more video footage of other vehicles

Here are some more videos, these are from our October 2010 event

Here is another video of Mal keogh in his 2.1L Datsun 1600

Here is another one of Nathan Quinn in his girl friends evo 6 road car, He set the fastest lap of the day, followed by my mate Tony in my Silvia

Nathan has an evo9 rally car and has competed in the ARC with a best finish of 2 outright, plus setting outright 1st stage times

No need to explain who Nathan Quinn is. Very well known in rally circles.

HAve you had a go at driving there yourself?

Yeah i have driven it, was 5th fastest out of about 30 entries, just under a second off my mate in my car, his times where 44seconds i think.

1st Nathan evo 6, 2nd Tony my silvia, 3rd WRX, 4th Turbo TX3 laser, 5th Myself Silvia

We can only run road tyres also

Here are some pics from the weekends event, more pics and videos to come when i get them.

good stuff Brett! I've recently re-discovered my love of dirt. An unfortunate side effect is wanting to get back into rallying... unbeatable adrenaline rush, but you certainly have to pay for it. These type of events are much better value for money, but don't compare to the forest. Its just enough to whet the appetite...

It is good fun guys, I wont be doing rallying, as i dont have the money for that.

My car is mainly setup for Drag Racing and tarmac events, not dirt.

Having said that it gets used for all forms of motorsport, drags, hillclimbs, motorkhanas (both tarmac and grass), Dirt flat track and is a daily driver also.

It has run an 11.93 @ 115mph at the drags with 240rwkw, and it is run on the dirt with exactly the same power and setup except for different tyres depending on the event. Still road tyres for the dirt lap dash though

Here is a photo of mine from one of last years events, that is about 120kph, full sideways, flat in 3rd

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
