Hi guys

Was thinking of doing those Legal off street drags sometime soon hosted by Calder Park, not sure if anyone else is interested so just putting out there. It's also been raining so trying to plan ahead.

Bit of a noob to this so it'd be great if I can find buddies! It's only $80 per street car. Really only doing a few average runs to see the 1/4 mile times, so I'm not planning to break my driveshafts etc.

Need to get myself a helmet and away I go!

I moved to Melbourne back in the late 80s and my dad always planed to take me down there on a friday night... ...I've still never been...

I would like to take the Skyline over there one day... ...But I've got no one to go over with... ...I'm in Dandenong and don't finish work until 7pm... ...So most of the time it's home straight after work...

They do Saturday Drags as well purely for that reason ;) Next one is 21st May http://www.calderpark.com.au/events/may-21-saturday-drags.aspx

But yes, Rain is usually a pain out here, although last friday night was clear.

im planning on going to the next calder off street meeting, its a saturday so its easier to get there on time, only problem with the next event is that it is also an hsv club day, i dont care tho, as long as theres no rain i will be happy to go.

you mean back when caldr was actually cool and held the nationals and top fuelers with the occasional jet truck..

Ahhh the good ol days..stupid friggin chunderdome killed it all if ya ask me..

Bob Jane killed that - not the thunderdome.

Was i think 1997 when the last top fueller event was on there *sigh*

WOW, that long ago, i use to go to nationals every year, i go to the odd street meet every now and then, you always hear some one say "f**k thats loud", i have a bit of a chuckle and think "you have never seen the top fuelers" lol.

Still yet to find any auto sport that comes any where near the feel, sound or smell of a top fueller leaving the line, just the feel of the ground shaking under you is something i dont think i will ever feel again when full clothed in public!!

My old man was friends with the owner of the first top fuel bike into the 6-sec bracket in Aus, i think it was done in 1996 or 1995

So I was @ the Nationals every year in the centre pit areas toying with the gear and in the trailers etc... Still remember those days.

But ye, i remember the stones jumping almost 30-40cm in the air @ about 1/2 track as the Dragsters were coming past @ full song.

Utterly ridiculous. I'm going to WSID near the end of the year to see some action once again as a mate was up there few weeks ago and said it was just like he remembered - only you can't get as close lol... damn safety to hell.

Thanks :),

Heathcote was an option, but it's a little further hence I've looked into Calder but I'll keep that in mind.

Still need to get that helmet! Was looking at this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180601514000&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I don't really care what other cars there are on the track, as I'm just looking for stats on my own ride.

I did hear that Calder doesn't do pure 1/4 miles anymore? So there goes the 1/4 mile times. Correct me if I'm wrong, that's what a colleague told me, due to braking distance etc..

do you need a full face? i bought one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OPEN-FACE-MOTORCYCLE-HELMET-ADULT-XLARGE-AS1698-B-MATT-/230542128774?pt=AU_Clothing_Merchandise_Media&hash=item35ad61b686

Make sure you get fitted first, before buying online. Otherwise you can get something that might not fit your egg :D

And careful of the US as i believe the sizing is a little different at times :)

good point, when i bought mine i did all the measurements and picked the size that should fit me, after paying for it they sent me a msg saying they didnt have that size in that style, could have gotten a refund but i thought screw it ill just get the next size (one smaller) and it fitted perfect, worked out well in the end but if they had stock of the size i chose it would be like wearing a 44 gallon drum!

    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
