Need Mechanic (Good and Reasonable) - no big workshops please

Recommended Posts

hey there. anyone out there know a good mechanic who can do basic work - oil change, hoses change etc. etc. on japanese imports. My mates and I r looking for someone to do the work on our cars. Include r33, r32, silvia, gti-r, supra.

just need basic work, no heavy modifications required. Would like someone good at what they do at a reasonable price.

thanks - prefably in Brisbane southside. would prefer someone private, not a big huge workshop with a 100 cars workin on at one time.

bryan :)

Dude u cannot go past Gavin woods auto tech there was a thread on him about 30 pages long of pple giving positive feed back if its nissan he knows it i wouldnt trust anyone else with my baby... search the thread for his contact details..... his located at labrador and its not a big shop at all

Michael

Gimour Developments, Acacia Ridge, i just finished working there due to uni starting, good work shop and not overly big, builds some really really tuff cars, if u go down to have a look, check out the yellow 33 there, he's a well known one but it used to be a diff colour. I think there trying to get a 7 second pass out of it.

sounds great - I'm only requiring basic work like oil change, hoses being changed, basic service issues. How are these places on prices - its basic stuff so i dont want to be forkin out top dollar at the moment. I will definitly go to a reputable place like Gavin Woods for big modifications

Bryan, try Charlie's Motor or Chapman & Chapman. THey both do good work but Chapman takes a longer time due to the volume of cars they are servicing, mod, etc.

I have been with Charlie for a long time since my civic days. PM me if you want for his addy.

Ok I have tried Chapman and Chapman and Charlies and have had good reports.

As for a local mechanic then I don't go past Peninsula Mechanical Repair at Redcliffe. Ask for Simon, he is reasonably priced and a damn good mechanic.

Just mention Neill sent you and he will look after you...

Cheers

I use Steve from Mcintosh Mobile Mechanics for all service work on my GTR. He is one man operation, will come to your work or home. He does labour only work if you have parts to install as well. He has done multiple services including a timing belt, water pump, cam gear install.

He is very reliable and will always tell you if he notices anything out of the ordinary that might need attention.

Call him on 0412-156-600.

He is on the northside but will travel down to about Springwood or so if necessary.

Cheers

Dirk

man, ive been taking my car to the brand new nissan work shop at wooloongabba and they are awesome

got my car serviced yesterday and it was 99 bux (basic service)

on top of that they are chasing down a grommet for bonnet arm (to hold it up) and they chased a rocker gasket up all over town for me;

they also do 4 wheel alignments (which u need if u got hicas)

i cant recommend them highly enough for basic work

we have been stoked with their work

how is that place going spooks? theres a nissan workshop at springwood and i work there they are both owned by the same dealer principal with 1 service( wa!@#er)manager TRYING to run both of them and others. At least it looks better on the outside than where i'm at. just some useless info for ya

yer, we talked to nissan first and they suggested springwood, but their prices were higher !?!? plus the phone bird at springwood was useless!

im 100 percent stoked with the servicing they have been doing us (going way above and beyond)

100 bux for a service?!?!?! cant beat that;

who's the service manager? Alan? or is he just some front desk jockey?

hes so nice to us its not funny

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
