Where Do You Buy Your Tools From?

Corey if i was to get the 69 piece Sidcrome set from Auto One i wouldn't have 3/8 sockets?

Arent they the most important one? or are they interchangable with 1/2 sockets? My Haynes manual for the excel actually recommends the 1/2 over the 3/8 .. but almost everybody else I've heard from has recommended the 3/8 as the most important one

You don't need really fancy tools to start off

+1 if you're starting off and only going to be working on the car from time to time then it's probably better (considering you're on a budget) to buy something like Stanley which is cheaper and is still a reputable brand.

Yeah Stanley had that 69 piece black chrome sockets of 1/4 and 3/8s for only $69 bucks at SCA i was quite keen on that, but the repco brand is also a good price and it has a whole warranty etc

i would go the stanley 69 piece set as it has 3/8. you wont get the toolbox the other 69 set has but with what you save you can get metric and imperial spanners.

all the options are starting to confuse me too now...luckily these days i only have to replace what goes missing

+1 for this, although i really do need to talk the missus into letting me get the top half of my snap on tool box. She just doesnt understand.

let me know if you need backup and we can get together and talk her into it. :thumbsup: Mr Snappy comes to work regularly in his truck. sometimes i get that sick in my stomach feeling when you ask how much something is :sick:

what do you need more tools for now your moving up the foodchain haha

hahaha yeah the amount of options are ridiculous!

I was thinking of getting a good 3/8 set, and there are sets with 1/4 and 1/2 with 8-19mm spanners which are all the spanners I really need and should give me a good place to start with 1/4 and 1/2 sockets which I may not use as much anyway!

Cheers Dave I'll try and get there ... its a bit of a trek even from work in osb. park though!

Still need to check out the kinchrome sale at toolmart and bunnings and call up repco for their prices

Do Stanley have a lifetime warranty on their products?

Jonno34: I'm not sure if stanley do, but they are still made in the sidchrome factory so are nearly just as good. The stanley range are "2nds" if you will, it just didnt meet the grade of sidchrome

Well I've been going crazy calling up repco/sca/auto one and getting prices/catalogues and stuff

Finally decided on a 60 piece socket and spanner set from repco, goes for 199 on special from 320 bucks or something. and i get 20% off that too!

comes with 1/4 and 1/2 drives, so that should cover most of what i need, got alot of sockets for each one, spark plug sockets, and 8-19mm spanners

and repco is selling a 2 tonne jack for 100 bucks on sale at the moment, and tool marts got kinchrome jack stands for 70 bucks that hold up 3000kg each!

might decide to spend a bit more on the jack and get something stronger though

i wouldnt worry too much about the warranty jonno as you will probably lose them before you break them :whistling:

if your looking at your first kit dont forget your local cashies or whatever youd be suprised by what turns up in these places

ive scored quite afew bargains just by walking thru the door and giving the old " give ya a hundy"

thats true, but most tools of any decent quality come with lifetime warranty anyway (stanley does come with a lifetime warranty as well)

i would have gone for the stanley set, cos thats a mad good deal at 69 bucks, but no spanners, which costs a good 120 bucks or so .. actually that has more sockets than the repco set im getting and it would work out cheaper ..

the repco one has spark plug sockets as well though

but the stanley has a 3/8 drive instead of a 1/2

DAMN back into confusion haha

Beyond Tools are having a massive sale, they have reduced everything in there store, so its a good time to go and check them out there located at 23 Exhibition drive,Malaga

sale ends midnight 30th june

their reduced prices are still higher than everyone elses normal prices. most expensive tool shop i've ever been to.

OP, tried ebay?

more options! I may just stick to the SCA/Repco sales - their pretty cheap and I get to see them in store and have a feel of them first and stuff I guess .. although i could feel em in a store n thn buy it online

69 bucks from 120 or 199 from 320 are both real good deals though

      Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention

      So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.       From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
