sleptema
Hey guys, just a quick update on my car (if anyone is following, although I am sure no one cares, I just like telling everyone!) I have the bomex kit sitting in my garage waiting for a mate to pick it up and paint it for me. I also just installed a pair of 6000k HID xenons by myself, which may not seem that great to be flaunting, but I know close to nothing about cars and I am not the handyman type. Soo, I am happy I have heard a cheap, safe and easy way to get an extra bit of power out of my '99 r34 gtt is to get an aftermarket chip put in it. Few questions for the knowledgeable to answer- Is it safe? Are there any drawbacks? Where can I get one and for how much? Engine is completely stock ^ Also I am looking into getting some blue in amongst the black.. I would like to change the background colour of my tacho/speed monitor thing to blue, also get a blue bulb for my boot. How would I go about either and is it safe for me (knowing nothing about cars/electrical) to do either. I would like to do it myself as I want to learn about my car and do all the mods (where possible) myself. Thanks guys! Ty1
hey man with regards to the blue bulbs I'm pretty sure the bulbs are a T10 type for the speedo and you'll need about 5 bulbs.I just got some off ebay for like $15. In my r33 it was a piece of piss to pull out the speedo and change the bulbs over but you may want to find a tutorial for the r34 on how to remove the dash facia. I'm sure it would be a very similar process and very safe to attemp even if you know very little about electrics. Just make sure the lights are off lol The worst you can do is blow a fuse which are easy to replace. And when it comes to the chip for the ecu you can either go a full stand alone ecu which is quite expensive (upwards of $1000) or a 'piggy-back' ecu (around the $500 mark) which still retains the stock ecu which is what I'm looking at getting myself soon. on top of this you also need to get it tuned which can be another $500 to $1000 depending on what sort of tune your after and what mods are done to the car. but as mentioned by the previous guy don't go getting those dodgy $20 ebay ones which claim to give you like a 20hp gain. It definitly feels good doing things to your car yourself rather than taking it to a mechanic. The best way to learn is searching on these forums. 3 years ago I knew nothing about cars or how to do a basic oil change but now I feel a lot more confident in doing any work on my car thanks to these forums. Those xenons are the shit! I have some in my r33 too Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369552-ecu-chip-r34/#findComment-5892299 Share on other sites
