Best bet mate, if you dont have the standard one still they are cheap as shit for the to buy. No doubt they see one of those shiny looking ssqv bov's on there it will be sticker time for you. Plus like you said, they sound shit.

yeah still got the stocka

i know wat is the deal with that worst sound ever

im enjoyin dosin everuwhere i go i mite just put stock

one in and block it wit my mad moutain dew can modification

LSHMSFOAIDMT

yeah cars only runnin stock boost n stock turbz so im not worried ill

leave it blocked

Yeah man, i havent done it cause im not big on the sound, but i read a huge thread on it and it seems there is no solid info on it being unhealthy for the turbo. There was a few guys pointing out that its bad for the turbo etc, but all the guys that had done it had zero problems.

it's not an immediate issue with blocking off the bov, but it will shorten the life of your turbo, plus the fact that it increases the response time. my old 180sx had the stock bov on it and they are crap and do bugger all. i put an aftermarket bov on and it felt like a totally difference car on gear changes. so much less lag.

you have to remember that by blocking off the bov you are making all the air in the cooler piping go backwards out of the turbo (and AFM). this means the turbo is slowing down dramatically, and the ecu is pumping extra fuel into the engine, so you increase your chances of it stalling when pulling up to an intersection as well as fouling the plugs.

Well its a very individual taste i guess. Not something im into, even the standard bov gets annoying with a pod filter occasionally. I did read on the thread i was talking about that it was commonly asked by tuners to remove the blocking piece. Imo thats a good enough reason not to block it off, but as you said- each to their own.

Yeah but a stock rb25 turbo is nylon/ceramic and journal bearing

An s15 with steelwheeled ball bearing turbo will last alot longer with no bov than your turbo seriously don't block the bov

The s14 I bought recently has no bov I'm totally sick of the sound after 6 weeks and I'm trying to raise the funds to get a bov so I can stop my car sounding like a pigeon

His car, his choice mate. No skin off your back if he stalls it or has to replace his plugs everytime he fills up. The others have pointed out the negatives, and if he wants to risk it, so be it. Having said that, most blokes dont have a problem. One person has said he had to raise his idle to compensate.

For the op, this is thread i was talking about. At the end of the day its up to you and your personal preference, As the others have said, its not as ideal or efficient, but you know that.

    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
