Hey guys,

Just bought an 1989 R32 GTR, its my first skyline and first turbo car.

Im young so for the next couple of years it'll be solely a track car.

I bought it with work to do, not much to make it neat but enough to keep me occupied before i start

improving things further.

Enough of that, this thread will be basically keeping those who are interested, up to date with everything I'm doing.

Also plenty of good quality pictures for those who are just interested in pictures!

Here we go, excuse the size, not sure on how to post smaller...

Front bumper is off, front wheels too, that nasty brake fluid spill mark on the bonnet is the only noticeable paint defect.

Heres the back,

img4939n.jpg

Front with the bar on, sorry i couldnt get the whole thing in the picture, limited garage space :glare:

img4976s.jpg

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

img5007f.jpg

and the cliche photographic shot

img5013j.jpg

Cant forget the interior

img4978z.jpg

wheels that came with the car, not my style but im not fussed

img4977v.jpg

now for the good bits,

huge trust intercooler

img4956t.jpg

oil cooler

img4958.jpg

old school GReddy gauges, well atleast i guess they're old school ahah

img4993e.jpg

another 2 here for oil pressure and temp. wishing i had a 4th of the same style to make it look neater.

img4980ga.jpg

the first two things ill be focusing on, mounting the autronic computer. loom isnt long enough to go back through the firewall

for an internal mount but ill figure something out, too hot to have it in the engine bay i think.

img4998im.jpg

secondly mounting the oil filter, im not sure if the lines are coming off the engine wrong and are tangled up

or something else that is stopping it from mounting properly with the bracket it has,

img4995w.jpg

after all that i guess ill make up some sheet metal to fill this hole, or maybe put a stereo in there

not fussed at the moment

img4982b.jpg

heres the engine bay, not the prettiest :P

img4991ie.jpg

guess ill finish up on the steering wheel,

if anyone wants to buy it send me an offer, dont exactly enjoy the feel of it

still looks pretty.

img4986k.jpg

that'll do for now, hoping to make up some templates to make up another bracket for the

oil filter in the next few days.

see how we go from there.

hopefully more soon.

well im taking 2 days holidays from work,

so decided to do a little prepping for new parts,

firstly headlights came out, another set next week some time

img5017u.jpg

stored away, zip bags for cleanliness and no loss of parts!

img5019s.jpg

and then after that came the brakes turn!

new pads and rotors still to come

img5024dz.jpg

whilst they were off i decided i might as well make an attempt to make them look half decent

white base coat

img5029ye.jpg

blue top coat, will let them dry properly and bring back the white on the nissan writing.

img5032y.jpg

bit of a lazy day today so thats all there is to show,

My computer just exploded. Resize the pictures m8. action-smiley-069.gif

sorry!

I think the oil cooler needs a new home, lines must be pretty long.

+1 on image resize

any suggestions on places? i thought there was pretty much the only place :S

cant change whats been done but all from here on in will be 1000x667 or so

that boost gauge is sweet

yeah i really like it too! unfortunately i only have 3 guages in that same style but 4 holes in my dash :( need another at all costs!

massive photos +1

;) no more buddy!

did you use heat proof brake temp rated paint on the calipers??

looks good, what is the front bar, more pics, i like the huge entry for the intercooler

yes to the heat proof! ofcourse haha

not sure what it is, its rare that i even like kits on cars but this one seems to hit the spot.

Finished the brakes the other day,

getting the nissan logo was very tedious

car0001.jpg

one down, took about half an hour :|

car0002.jpg

two down! did the second one faster but i think overall it was a kinda scrappy job but oh well, they're just calipers

car0003.jpg

end result! came up not too bad i think

car0006.jpg

so i was fiddling around with my gauges the other day and i damaged one of the braided lines, just so happened to be the oil pressure gauge,

so there starts the oil leak

seat out to give myself some working space

car0004.jpg

glove box out and put into storage, will get a new one to replace, as for the braided line, i think new gauges is in order

car0007.jpg

thats all folks,

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
