Has anyone really wondered why our R30 Skylines slip through the air so well?

Drag, down force, design etc all go to fuel efficiency, but do you know there is only one (1) Nissan with a better drag coefficient (Cd) than the R30 Skyline.

Cheers, D

Nobody got any ideas????????

I find this amazing!

Just imagine the McLaren F1 has a worse Cd than the R30!

The R30 has a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.27

The 2007 GTR has a drag coefficent (Cd) of 0.27

The 2010 GTR has a 1/100th of a point better Cd at 0.26 and is the slipperiest Nissan ever built.

To put this figure into a bit of perspective, the R32 GTR has a Cd of 0.40, the R33 GTR 0.35, 280ZX @ 0.385, 1983 Z31 300ZX has 0.30, 1989 Z32 has 0.32, G37 Infinity coupe has 0.31 and both 350 & 370Z 's 0.30

Cheers, D

Better than you.LOL

I said RMR, ie, Hatchback. It aint an R30.:pirate:

Humble apologies my dear friend, but my wind tunnel test results don't differenciate between an EDR, KHR, RMR, or any other derivative, because I guess at the end of the day THEY ARE ALL R30's or have I got this wrong to

Whilst I'm here does anyone know why the 2010 GTR has a slightly different Cd to it's predecessor?

Cheers, D

what's the CD for R34 GTR ... i am guessing not very good number

Just off the top of my head I would assume it would be quite reasonable, but I will check on it to confirm, but as the R34 was designed off the R30 I would think it might be quite good as I said.

  • 5 months later...

Guys,

The Cd number is relevant, but it's only part of the story...

The actual drag force is calculated by D = Area x Cd x 1/2 * rho * (velocity)**2

rho is the air density and velocity squared is just that, speed mulitplied by itself.

The half rho v squared part will be the same no matter what the vehicle, so the difference in drag force comes down to Cd mulitplied by frontal area.

The McLaren has less frontal area than a Skyline R30 and so it will have a lower total drag force.

cheers,

Howard.

I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
