Looks like I'll have a M35 Stagea in my driveway later this week or early the week after. First thing's first, it'll need an alarm.

I believe the M35's have keyless entry, so I really want an alarm that will integrate with the standard keys - I don't want to have to unlock the car with my keys and then disarm the alarm with a keyfob or something like that.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a quality system and installer in SA?

I know Ryan (bigkevracer) just had one put in at Auto Perfection and i will probably follow suit as he has now done one so know whats involved.

He opted for a stand alone unit due to the cost factor if you had to replace a stock key or if one failed.

Yep, Auto Perfection did an ok job, and the alarm fob unlocks and disarms the alarm.

Dunc got his done at GT Autosound. I was going to go this way but George wanted to fix the standard alarm and fit an upgrade, and I was convinced by reading on here that the standard one would continue to cause me issues.

You probably have the dealer option alarm, with a sensor on the left hand side dash near the a pillar. Thats what was in mine.

Doubt youd have an immobiliser unless it was fitted at compliance, mine didnt have one. Wasnt included in the factory alarm upgrade.

Now it does though :thumbsup:

Are the factory alarms worthless then? Just cause trouble?

I don't think the factory alarms are totally worthless, it's just that they seem to have been mostly installed without the best work practices. If, at the first sign of trouble, you replace the crimp on connectors with soldered joints you may find it lasts the life of the car. I never had a problem with mine so far, but the sensors (I've got two) tend to be a bit sensitive so leaving the window or sunroof cracked is out of the question (except if you use the black tape mod lol).

But if you've got security concerns then there are better devices to be sure. But one button entry is nice to have.

I have one button entry, its just a different button.

I have a feeing youre right Leon, probably be fine if you replace the scotch locks with solder. But with mine playing up I didnt want to stuff around with it.

Im not sure if you can get something to work with the standard key if you rip out the factory alarm, but the point was made to me how many keys will you have? Probably one, and theyre at least $110 each...

Correct, George ripped out my Jap-spec alarm/immobiliser, and fitted a new unit. It has a little fob, and Ive had new keys cut that dont have any buttons - so no unnecessary bulk. I should be back on Thursday/Friday if you wanted to check it out :thumbsup:
