R34 Gt-T Advice/traction Control

Hi all! I’m looking at buyingan R34 GT-t. I wanted to ask all youSkyline-o-philes, what is the easiest way to defeat the GT-t Traction controlsystem? I test drove a GT-t Auto in the wet recently and despite switching the TCSoff, it still kicked in when I tried to drift her! L I gather fromprevious posts that this is normal operation? I was of the belief that ‘off’was ‘totally off,’ (as in you are on your own!)

I have to say one of the greatestpleasures of such a sweet Turbo RWD chassis as the R34, is being able to driftit when the mood (often) takes me! J Especially inthe wet! Woooowho! J

So, can I simply pull the TCSfuse or disconnect the TCS module (which I believe resides in the boot) and/ordisconnect the secondary throttle body butterfly, as basic defeats?

Or better still, I believethere is a good TCS interceptor device(s) available that allows the system tobe TOTALLY switched off and back on again when desired? This would be awesome! ‘Off’ when I want toplay and ‘on’ when I’m (rarely) behaving! Lol! J

Also, has anyone bought aSkyline from or had any dealings with Global Vehicles in Fawkner Vic? Would anyone recommend any particularImporters/Dealers in Melbourne? I’m in theDandenong area. I believe Power Road Car Sales in Dandenong are reasonable? Some may beg to differ though of course! Interested in people’s experiences/feedback.

Hey Skavenski. That's interesting. I definately didn't think there was any difference between Auto and Manual!? I love the purity of a manual but for a daily, I can't go past the luxury of an auto. I'm getting too old an lazy to push a clutch pedal! Lol! Cheers.

i think that you should buy that car if the traction control won't properly turn off because the last thing this country needs is another cockhead drifting in the wet on public roads, especially in an import, as this just makes the authorities just crack down harder on import owners and ruins the already tarnished image of car enthusiasts.

moral of the story, you sound like you don't deserve to have a licence.

Ahem; Dear Mr Mad082 et al, I have been driving high-powered vehicles and competing Club Motorsport for more than 20 years. In fact I was out gaining valuable driving experience and skills while you were still graduating from Kindergarten. Given I'm now in my 40's and have survived with all my faculties intact and not so much as a scatch to either myself or others, I ask that you grant me some courtesy and perhaps keep your opinions to yourself. As the saying goes, "Opinions are like arseholes; everyone's got one!" Just because you have an opinion, that doesn't automatically make it right! If one has nothing positive to say, perhaps say nothing at all!? I'm all for people expressing an opinion but slagging people off whom you really know very little about, is neither polite, nor mature. Obviously we don't all have to agree on here, but a little basic human courtsey never goes astray! Polite intelligent dialogue :rolleyes: or, nothing at all.

Please play nicely people! :rolleyes:

well considering that you are talking about drifting a car in the wet on public roads, i think you deserve everything i said. the car enthusiest community is constantly taking a bashing from the media and politicians because there is all too much evidence of people driving like cockheads. your post just shows that you are one of those people contributing to the bad reputation. i don't care how old you are, or how long you have been driving. talking about drifting on a public forum (where i'm sure we have members who are police officers) is just plain stupid. it also shows that your maturity level sure doesn't match your age.

Well, even if you are really doing stupid shit on public roads, don't publicise that.

pretty sure that people posting about doing skids does much more damage to this forums reputation that anything else. for starters, it's illegal and driving unsafely is what the media goes on about. never heard a media story on forum members calling someone a dickhead for posting about illegal and unsafe driving habbits.

Ok Mr Mad et al, I shall endeavour not to 'contaminate' YOUR forum/soapbox any further. No offence intended to anyone. I value Road Safety just as much as ANYONE else and I'm critically aware of the enormous energy and potentially destructive forces wrapped in vehicles at speed. A solid core of driving skill, vigilant attention/anticipation, respect for others and an understanding of vehicle dynamics and what is/is not appropriate speed/driving behaviour in prevailing conditions, is what seperates a driver from a steering wheel attendant. I just thought this was Skylines Australia not 'Road Safety Sermon 101'?! I didn't catch your badge number but I 'd suggest that giving lectures and name calling is a not a particularly effective technique when it comes to spreading the Road Safety message!? Remember those basic human courtesies again?

P S : I'm really 70 years old, wear a Cardigan and drive a Prius (slowly) to bowls once a week. You may feel better now?

      My thinking is that if the O2 sensor is shot then your entire above described experience is pure placebo.

      Here is the mess that I made. That filler there was successful in filling dents in that area. But in the middle area. I can feel dents. And I've gone ocer it multiple times with filler. And the filler is no longer there because i accidently sanded it away. I've chased my tail on this job but this is something else lol. So I'm gonna attempt filler one more time and if it doesn't work I'll just high fill primer the door and see where the issues are because guidecoat is of no use atm.

      Ok, so I think I sort of figured out where I went wrong. So I definitely overthinked it, and I over sanded, which is probably a large part of the problem. to fix it, I ended up tapping some spots that were likely to be high, made them low, filled them in, and I tackled small sections at a time, and it feels a lot better.    I think what confused me as well is you have the bare metal, and some spots darker and some are lighter, and when I run my finger across it, it' would feel like it's a low spot, but I think it's just a transition in different texture from metal to body filler.    When your finger's sliding on the body filler, and crosses over to the bare metal, going back and forth, it feels like it's a low spot. So I kept putting filler there and sanding, but I think it was just a transition in texture, nothing to do with the low or high spot. But the panel's feels a lot better, and I'm just going to end up priming it, and then I'll block it after with guide coat.   Ended up wasting just about all of my filler on this damn door lol

      -10 is plenty for running to an oil cooler. When you look at oil feeds, like power steering feeds, they're much smaller, and then just a larger hose size to move volume in less pressure. No need for -12. Even on the race cars, like Duncans, and endurance cars, most of them are all running -10 and everything works perfectly fine, temps are under control, and there's no restrictions.

      Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
