I've got C's, It is very good, solid works well and is very easy to fit. As far as I know Nismo make two one of them shortens by only 10% the other I Don't know, quality should not be a problem though

OK i've been doing some research and it looks like there are basically two types of shifters:

- Short Shifters (aka solid, direct)

- Quick Shifters

What's the difference?

From the pics I can see of the two, the short shifters just shorten the stick, while the quick shift kits come with a shortened stick and also a whole lot of other nuts, washers and brackets etc (i'm not very good at technical stuff:D).

If any would care to explain I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Summary so far: C's is the way to go

I got my C's from takakaira.com in Japan delivered to my door took 2 weeks cost $A634 via credit card.

The proper short shift changes the length of the stroke at the bottom of the gearleverwhich actually makes the change faster and also has the effect of shortening the length of the arc your hand moves through when you change gear. Just shortening the top of the lever shortens the arc but doesen't change anything at the bottom.

Currently I'm thinkinf of shortening the top of my C's .............Has anyone else tried this. It should give a really short shift but might make it a bit too stiff.

| Hype ^ | yes that's the idea would make for a double shoetening of the arc your hand moves through. Was also thinking of fitting a gate in the top of the console instead of the leather boot like in some Ferraries.

A short shifter is simply that, the distance between the pivot point and the gearknob is shorter.

A quick shifter has the pivot point changed so the throw required to change gears is less as well as the stick being shorter, however it also means it is stiffer, or firmer to change. Most people prefer this and the difference is usually not that great. Imagine a see-saw with the hinge moved to one side. Same principle. Just think, all those physic's lessons are paying off :)

If you have ever been in an excel with a really short gear stick, it usually means that is has had the top hacked off with a cheap fake momo glue back on top. If you have even driven a car like this you know that it makes changing gear really ****. Only spend money on a quick-shifter kit if you really need it. I mean the skyline shifters aren't too bad in the first place.

The C's shifters use adapters to change the pivot point, another way of getting a shorter shifter is to remove the ball joint from the shifter and have it reattached futher along the stick.

Anyway never complaint about the length of the Nissan shifter until you have driven old school 4wds. Most seem to have about 2.5metres of throw.:D

    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
