Re4-R01B Gearbox Issues

Hi Guys

Would usually post in the V35 section but since my gearbox is pretty much identical to some stageas, i thought I'd try here.

Basically box itself runs fine. But i hear this crunching noise coming from it that only happens for about 1 second every time I step on the gas pedal to accelerate.

It doesn't really affect the car so much but the noise is there and it's worrying me.

Fluid recently replaced with Castrol Transmax Z. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

RE4 takes a matic D and thats a matic D fluid.

are you SURE its the transmission making the rattle?

Not too sure since I replaced the fluid pretty much straight away after i got the car. I was advised by some members here that Castrol Transmax Z is a good substitute for D Matic and went ahead with it.

I'm pretty sure the sound is coming from the gearbox since it only makes the noise when i step on the accel and sometimes when changing gears. It's not too loud but It's there. More of a "klack klack klack klack" sound then CRUNCH!

It sounds like the noise a manual gearbox would make when trying to take off at the 3rd or 4th gear. So hard to explain ...

Is there anything else down there that can make that sort of noise? Maybe Torque Converter or something? Definitely crossed out exhaust rattle and such.

chuck the car up on a hoist, check the bearing in the tailshaft. check the yoke to make sure its not rattling. check the diff too.

rattle things and see what moves and makes noises.

is it leaking any fluid from the transmission?

it may be the transmission! crunching is never good

Alright I'll do that. Just wondering where the heck i can hoist it since most workshops would wanna charge to service the car first . lol

then jack it up, put 2 wheels on a gutter and crawl under it.

if you do jack it up, be VERY careful as the shake the car. put a jack stand under it, or at LEAST a wheel in case it falls on you
