Complete-RB30.jpg

For some time I’ve been tossing up what engine will go into my R33. At one stage I thought about putting in another RB25 and hoping for the best. But then Anthony said “go 25/30!”.

At first I thought it wouldn’t be a cost-effective option, but boy was I wrong! So after doing some reasearch I decided that’ll be the best bang for buck option (considering I already had an RB25 head). I hunted around and found a complete RB30 out of a R31 Skyline for sale.

Julie, Paulie and I made the trek to McGraths hill last weekend to pick it up.

Shortly after we took it straight to Dahtone for the strip down, an hour later that complete engine we shoe-horned into my Stagea’s boot was essentially a bare block.

Initial plans were to change the rings and bearings, but after looking at the condition of the pistons, and noticing the hone marks are still prominent on the bores we might not even bother.

This engine build will be simple, mainly focusing on sufficient oil supply. The Ol’ RB30 will be able to handle my power goal with ease.

THE NEW HEART

Depends on what kind of fitment you want?

What tyre size and camber do you plan to run, are your guards rolled?

could probably do a 20mm spacer all round, run a decent tyre and minimal camber. Would have a nice "stance" to it. Really depends on what you are after though.

Just read the entire thread, This is just epic!

I wonder how many other cursed R33's are out there? I own one also :P

Love the colour, Love the wheels, love the stance!

such a shame about that scrapheap of a motor

Cant't wait to see it with the 25/30 under the bonnet.

keep up the great work!

thanks for the info, heaps of room in the guards i just need to clear the caliper, without stupid amount if poke. i think a slip on would give me enough clearance but i dont want to run slip ons so perhaps a 10 or 15mm bolt on would do it, if i can find a set that is.

i would like to run a stretched tyre but nothing too crazy either

what sort of mods do you need to do to get the 25/30 working?

R33-Skyline-slammed-Run-It-Hard.jpg

Some of you might have seen my part out thread for my R33 already, but for those who haven’t … I’ve decided to throw in the towel.

There has been a few things that have been bugging me during the build of my R33. One of the biggest things is that I’d never be able to drive it on the street. Another thing that started to get to me was the lack of decent (not that skid pan rubbish) drift days in NSW this year. This has led me to believe, what’s the point of going all out on a car when you’ll be lucky to drive it a handful of times a year?

The more I thought about it, the more of a “waste” it was. When Jeff had a chat to me about it all on Sunday night, I was settled and knew what needed to be done.

The most memorable moments with this car, is in fact driving it on the street. Cruising around town and all that jazz. I just can’t come to terms of having a sick car that I can’t drive when ever I feel like it.

Though the most influential thing that has made me do this is that I’m looking to purchasing property in the future, and parting out the Skyline will clear a lot of debts that has been accumulating since ownership.

One day I’ll be in another R33, but for now it’s just not the right time.

However I’m not walking away from what I love doing, so many parts from the R33 will be spared and make its way onto my Stagea.

I just wish things didn’t go the way they did with the build. But as they say, everything happens for a reason.

GAME OVER

Just read FS section :(

Sorry to hear

And goodluck with the stag

Yeah it's a shame. Would of been a great car when/if it was ever finished and ran longer then a day

Damn, was just waiting to see the final fitment and then saw the last post. Tis a shame things didn't work out as easily as they should have mate, your Stag is still a damn sexy beast!

Cheers mate, it's been a hard desicion to make, but yeah just feels like I'm pissing money in the wind. If the second engine didn't go out the way it did it'll probably be sitting in the garage in one piece still.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
