just finished detailing it too dark for pics - pics will be there tomorrow :)

120y is so not silly!

280zx was beautiful, just a slug to drive ... automatic was horrible + weak engine for a heavy car

How is it condition wise? Rust?

Manual swap + exhaust intake and stuff would make it a different car imo.

ahh a little bit of rust on the rear end, but otherwise pretty good

also the interior had some bits falling apart and stuff but it was alright imo

yeah i think the manual conversion would do well for it

its only the L20 engine though - 2L n/a isnt enough to power that thing

how hard is a manual conversion to do?

its such a looker im actually considering it though ...

dya rekon a RB30 swap into that would be any good? RB30 + extractors/exhorst + manual conversion

jizz.

Are we talking 280ZX? They had an L28 engine in them. In stock (pollution) form they were slugs all right, but they are very easy to modify and there are several pushing near on 300bhp without turbos. Never under estimate the L28.

In stock form the 280ZX was the luxury barge of the era, but with easy suspension and engine tweaks, they are easy to convert into the sports car they should have been.

yeap 280zx man, but i had a look at the plates and stuff in the engine and its a L20 in there

dya rekn itd house a RB or something in it though? the car was alright just needed auto-manual conversion and moar powa

RB30 can be fitted, but a lot less work to get an L28 in there. Oz spec 280's never came with an L20 though. Dunno what's going on there.

Plenty of RB20 / 25 / 26 Zed conversions about, so it's all possible. How deep are your pockets though?

my pockets barely exist xD

LOL nah its not horrible but yeah not good either, I thought Rb30 was a pretty cheap motor ... is the L28 common engine?

yeah i was confused as well, it may be an import? all the stickers etc under the bonnet were in japanese

i was also concerned as the guy had had the car for 2 years apparently and knew almost nothing about it ... the kms say about like 69000 or something but he said he has no idea tbh :|

car drove pretty good though besides the lack of power

yeah i think its a great looking car, just needs a manual conversion + moar powa

yeah definitely man especially with the classics - expensive and horrible range .. i was just worried about getting the car to pass the pits in WA?

for a car that costs 5k or less im sure its not 100% in perfect condition and ive heard some horrible stories about getting a car to pass the pits .. i also wont be able to take a good look at the car ... i do have a friendly mechanic in Victoria though

but even civics are at least 2.5k for a decent EG sedan in perth though which is just ridiculous .... '

*edit* haha yeah he didnt know what to say to anything i asked him ... asked him if it was a 2 or 2.8L - no clue

was it imported? no clue but he got it off a lady previous owner

does the aircon work? oh i think so ... i try the aircon and it does not work - and hes like oh not too sure never tried it

bit dodgy ....

if I go for it gotta get it checked out .. i think you can do the thing where you can check the vehicles history and stuff?

weird for a guy to have a car for 2 years and not know a single thing about it

ill send it to k mart as well :P

2k from 3.5 seems a bit unreasonable LOL

ill go wrecker hunting when i finish my exams thumbsup.gif

is it a harder job to do though? i saw mightymods do it! would be a nice project i think ...

old man wasnt a fan of the 280zx though

i may be seeing melvins integra this weekend thumbsup.gif

280z's never came with a l20, the l20 died along while before that model. 240z had 2.4, 260z had 2.6 and so on. Not unless someone has put a l20 in there for some reason.

    • Just a thought, was that car and auto at any point of its life? If so, maybe whoever bridged the inhibitor switch/circuit did a not so good job.
    • Wife wanted basket things in the wardrobe in our temporary house. Thought about ripping our the wardrobe and fitting the entire IKEA set, but it's a temporary house and we want to move in a few years. So IKEA advertises this as a 50cm unit, however the actually basket and rails measure 46cm wide. Only issue was depth, IKEA stuff is quite deep, where as the builder special junk is super shallow at less than 40cm. Send it, chopped the rails, then offset the mounting holes, job done, happy wife, less shit scattered all over the bedroom. Did the same to the other side too. Also drove the Skyline shit box today, dropped off oil at Supercheap Auto. I didn't realise they only now take max 2x bottles per visit. I visited 2x Supercheap Autos.
    • I've seen similar actually in my situation. You never know what tables are attempted to be used when the car thinks it's -99C or +200C. The fail state is not usually that extreme but you know what I mean - it was in my case though! This is where being able to read all the sensors is useful cause you see this stuff really quickly.
    • The above is very important. However as long as you keep timing relatively low, it's plausible to make your own knock ears and plausible to learn to tune with a modern ECU that can do wideband O2 correction like a boost controller. I mean if you only have one viable road to even drive the car on, learning to tinker to this level may be worth doing given you can't do much else with the car...?
    • I find the fact that the rear plate has to be bent inwards at the rear not so bad: but the front is just awful: It's like come on. (these are my very old, now retired/turned in plates) TBH it is a lot of money to fix a minor issue, the fact I said "I'll never really spend the money on doing this" is why people ended up buying them as a gift for a 'car guy' who can be hard to shop for.. for car guy things.
