and what about a bad batch of fuel, or a fouled spark plug? also, at the end of the day, how do you prove you didnt thrash it.

Once you start modifying a car, all bets are off - would be nice if one day they could build and engine that was indistructable and could make as much power as you want - then again, I would like to win lotto too. I wonder which will happen first:)

Been interesting to read everyone's thoughts on this subjects

Personally, I believe you get what you pay for - that goes for anything

It would be very interesting to see the guy from Signal have a go at tuning some of the cars on the forum. I am sure that there are things to learn from him, but lets not forget, he is only trying to achieve the same thing anyone who tunes a programmable computer - a safe and powerful tune

So it will be very interesting to see the results, as they say, results speak louder than words

At the end of the day, you have to trust the person put in charge of tuning YOUR car. Like all of us here, everyone has done there research, and we all know (or should know) the good and the not so good tuners out there.

I trusted my car with Tilbrooks when Martin was there, he did my tune on my car - it has been running at 200rwkw on a 100,000+km old engine for almost 18 months, not a problem

So I reckon it will be great to see what the guy from Signal can do, and hopefully he produces a good result. There is no reason why he won't, as he has had much experience with these type of cars

Will be interesting to see the results

Chris

Just wondering, how come on many occations, when I see drag cars, drift cars etc, they're all running pig rich?? Even some classic clips where there was a RH9 shootout on the street, they were all running daammmnnn rich... I thought it was kinda strange...

I really dont understand fully what you hope to achieve by posting the link up? Hardly constructive. If that is indicative of the mentality of the clubs members, I cant see them becoming very succesful - someone makes a very valuable contribution to this forum to get slammed on another - what a bunch of c0cks.

There are some good Club PSi people. Ben that bought GTs old car is a nice fella, as is that Tein bloke. Dont judge the majority of the PSi clan on the pimply faced cheesedicks that lurk around forums....and are still saving for their "Foollee sick Qs non turbies moite".

Nicely said Martin.

Keep up the good work and thanks for that reply about PSI.

Dont u love all the experts on here.

Erica...Yeah Martin's a no bullshit bloke.

(oh if ur wodering who i am Martin u have worked on my SV8 leasy.....)

Its not meant to be constructive or destructive. Saw the post on the other forum and wanted to link it.. quiet a different approach to what the discussion is here..

and since they are reading this thread, atleast they can read what we think about their post too.

This post is getting around. Pls see attached..

I was seriously considering becoming a major sponsor of PSI events and the club but i have had enough of immature slanderous people with no thought for the ongoing repercussions of such posts, not just on the people involved but the whole scene in general. i speak for many business owners and people involved in promoting the import scene when i say that some of these keyboard warriors will **** the scene for everyone, there is already a shortage of people willing or able to competently work on, supply and help import owner drivers. (D1*GARAGE is bringing SIGNAL over for your/our benefit not their own they dont make shit out of it trust me i know) i fight with suppliers locally and nationally to include south australia in events and to help promote our scene to peolpe overseas (that supply local business) so that we can gurantee its growth, but this continued bickering on forums has resulted in a stigma, where all import owners are branded tightarse whinging jerks who have nothing better to do than bad mouth each other behind their backs. if it continues less and less business will cater for us import drivers and in turn less importers will bring in parts new and used and prices for everything will skyrocket, people will be stuck buying second hand shit from dodgy backyard holes offering driveway warranties, none of which benefits anyone.

I feel sorry for people such as Ben, TN and various others who genuinely support and promote the PSI club and get it involved in important events and then to have members/people from the inside continually drag it back down with jealous pre-school behaviour. Remeber if it was not for many of those (wheteher you like them or not) slagged off in the PSI post there probally would be much less of a import scene.

Most shops who sell used jap parts are a rip of with changing prices depending on who you are and who you know. Expecting top prices for bits that are like 5-10 yrs old with no warranty, with the usual you broke it doing this or installed it wrong.

Well shit sorry i didnt get a box or instructions. for %^$ sake!!!!!!

Autobarn - Id be carefull with wot say since most of these whinging jerks are your customers. And ya its great to see these shops sponsering events for people to pretty well trash there cars, why wouldnt you its a good money spinner.

I would just watch who you support cause it could have bad effects on your business.

Where is tuning school aswell? Regency Tafe?? :D

Erin

Trent,

You mentioned the tuning will be at D1 Garage using dynojet from Willall Racing. Will Signal be tuning Keirs Drag GTR too? Wonder what they would redo on the current tuning by Mike. I know Mike would love to see what changes if any they would do a map... With mike, im sure there isnt much changes to be made.

umm good question, 1-2 weeks.

im thinkin of buyin a nitrous kit. or a new turbo...

ill see how the car goes with the new tune. we should catch up for nasty byatches and pizza. uni holis next week so ill buzz ya.

back to topic now...

Skippy, where else are you gonna gets parts from? second hand shops are all about supply and demand and price is set accordingly, for sure some place ask to much but if its the only place that has it that the price that its worth.

i did not call you or my customers whinging jerks, my statement simply portrayed an opinion of import owners (owners, which includes myself having owned a soarer, series six and a 180sx and daily driver of a GTR) in general by the majority of other genres and major motorsport sponsors. we have been trying to lift the profile of the scene and portray a more professional enthusiastic image we can all benefit from. hence our ties with TOYO, EXEDY JAPAN, SIGNAL, BLITZ, HKS and soon TRUST japan. This is for your and my benefit, those who see fit to belittle those heavily involved in promoting imports such as Martin Donnon (HPI MAG, ZOOM, SPEED and drift judge etc etc) and other SA business's will see them leave and the scene will slip back into obscurity.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
