Do You (Or Your Parents/relations) Own A Motorhome Or Caravan?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am interested in getting some feedback on the Motorhome Vs Caravan debate.

There must be a number of reasons why someone who wants to tour around would pick one

or the other.

If you know someone who owns either a caravan or a motorhome/campervan I would like to hear

what their opinions are.

Cheers.

Caravan, means you need to own 1 less car as a rule. And can park at the caravan park, un hitch and still go dinner/shops etc etc with out bringing the toaster

+1

spot on

well I've had 3 caravans and have a monster luxury one atm.

What alot of you guys have to consider is the following:

Hitching and unhitching is a hassle

Setting up a caravan at the proposed site takes time

Big luxury vans suffer from fishtailing and generally try to steer the towing car/4WD

If you pull over on a deserted highway overnight, you have to abandon your vehicle to enter your van.......if you needed to get away in an emergency, you'd be stuffed.

Motorhome however has the following advantages.

No hitching or unhitching

Zero to minimal setting up at proposed site.

No issues with towing.

Pullover in a remote area for overnight stay and remain in your vehicle.......excellent for quick get away in case of emergency.

Tow a trailer with a small Suzuki Vitara (or similar) for daily commuting........trailer also allows you to carry generators, trail bikes, etc.

hey munro my old boy has allways had 4WD campers purely to use off road, baught a hybrid camper/van and was way to wide for bush tracks. he has thought about motor home with 4WD and roof top tent on trailer but cost is too much.

I think motor home with virata and rooftop tent on trailer would be best situation so travel in comfort 90% of time then leave motorhome in caravan park etc and go bush with the vitara

My olds have a caravan... to go with their lawn bowls.

Random comment.... on their Jayco, the axle bar centre is below the stub axle centre... dad decided to flip the axle to jack up the caravan for offroad adventures. He's an accident waiting to happen.

My dad's just recently bought a caravan, for the simple reason of having one less vehicle to worry about...How ever my argument was exactly as per Pete's...I want one of those old greyhound buses converted into a home though awesome things :)

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
