Rb20 Misfire

So I recently got my R32 back (RB20) after 20 months of it not being started. I charged the battery, unplugged the CAS gave it a few cracks and then plug the CAS back in and started it up.

It was running fine 20 months ago, but now it has a misfire on the 3rd cylinder back. Ive changed:

coilpacks between cylinders, nothing changed,

Ive changed spark plugs between cylinders and cleaned them at the same time, no different,

At this point the car wasnt blowing fuel out the exhaust, the sparkplug was dry and in good condition on the 3rd cylinder. Then I pulled all injectors out had them cleaned and tested all 100%, Still no change, but the the car does seem to blow a lot of fuel now unlike before.

Ive pulled the sparkplug out and put it in the coilpack and cranked it over and I can see the spark firing.

As far as I can tell it has spark, it has fuel and it has air.

Suggestions?

Can an igniter cause problems on only 1 cylinder?

Are you 100% sure its #3 even after changing the plugs around? I see you say it has spark, but is it a bright/strong spark?

for 30 bucks I would just chuck a set of new copper plugs in, even if its to eliminate any future problems

Police took it to investigate and forgot to give it back. :thumbsup:

Will do compression test when I find my compression gauge.

If its ring it should still have some sort of compression and if its valve then it should just be a flat 0. Is that correct?

No, a damaged piston or head gasket can cause a missfire at idle but not when above 1000rpm. Compression could come back 100% as well.

Valve can be the same. RB's aren't well known for carbon buildup on valves or ports but it can happen.

Do the comp, if it's 100%, do a proper leakdown test

Injector plug was the issue.

When all the way on with the c clip it wont fire. When pulled half way off it fires. So pulled all the injector plugs off and gave them a clean, now running 100% :thumbsup:

I thought you checked the injectors?

      I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.

      Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?

      This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.
