I originally went with Suncorp, much to my surprise when i added the turbo they said that wouldnt affect the premium as i wasnt increasing the displacement (go figure).

I dont know if this is different these days, but one things for sure... there is no trickin the insurance companies... if there's a way of getting out of paying, be assured they WILL find it!

I’m with Justcar, don’t try and bullshit the insurance company…it just makes it easier not to pay you out in an accident.

I tell them everything...every minor thing on the car, and I’ve been happy with the excellent service. BTW I’m in the same boat as Crooser..my turbo did not increase the premium.

Didn't notice much of a difference in power (if at all) with the 3.25". Looks schmick and sounds great. A bit loud down low, but at cruise speed and idleing, can't even notice it.

Again, the exhaust is a bit bigger than I needed, but seeing as a turbo is coming soon, I opted for too big to save money down the track.

As for the insurance, insuring it in your dad's name is a waste of time. You don't earn any no-claim bonus for yourself, the excess also makes it a waste of time and can also give the insurance company a reason for not paying out too (i.e if you insure a WRX for example in your dad's name, they will not pay if a driver crashes that is under 25!!). Same could apply to your car. I got quote just under $4500 with 0% no claim, no mods and a speeding fine just recently through just cars

i only pay circ. $1800 p/a for fully comprehensive in WA, and i have no idea what just 3rd party fire and theft costs, i never asked. After all, how much is your baby worth ? if it was a 2 grand corrola then fine, but not the 'line !

pstanbis if my full comp was that much, sure i'd get it, but its quoted at over $4500 :|

yeah, fair enough....

$4500 - thats what i got quoted for a turbo ! i think you'll find it goes as much on car value as power - my mates 2001 pulsar costs him $2200 - but it cost him about 7 grand more than my skyline so thats where i got that idea from. Anyone else made the comparison?

    • If you take the top half of the intake off you can unbolt the flap off the shaft and leave the shaft in there blocking the hole. Then you can remove the little vacuum canister off from under the manifold and get a spare vacuum line to run to the ECU. I can take some photos of it later. Probably best to get the vacuum source to the ECU sorted first though. Mine all worked mint with the base map from the GTT an I've pretty much let the closed loop sort the fueling and took 1 degree out of the whole timing map.
    • This IS something you also have to configure in Haltech (or at least I did in the past when going from onboard-to-ECU map sensor and an external MAP sensor in haltech land).
    • I'm hoping it's something as simple as the ECU is looking for an external MAP sensor, but he is trying to use the onboard MAP sensor.
    • You won't need to do that if your happy to learn to tune it yourself. You 100% do not need to do that. It is not part of the learning process. It's not like driving on track and 'finding the limit by stepping over the limit'. You should not ever accidently blow up an engine and you should have setup the ECU's engine protection to save you from yourself while you are learning anyway. Plenty of us have tuned their own cars, myself included. We still come here for advice/guidance/new ideas etc.  What have you been doing so far to learn how to tune?
    • Put the ECU's MAP line in your mouth. Blow as hard as you can. You should be able to see about 10 kPa, maybe 15 kPa positive pressure. Suck on it. You should be able to generate a decent vacuum to about the same level also. Note that this is only ~2 psi either way. If the MAP is reading -5 psi all the time, ignition on, engine running or not, driving around or not, then it is severely f**ked. Also, you SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITHOUT A LOAD REFERENCE. You will break the engine. Badly.
