SO, having placed my boost gauge where the Hazard switch is (with minimal damage to dash allowing for replacement) I now need to get the hazards working again with a different switch. I have bought a basic on/off switch i was hoping would do the trick but with my feeble electrical knowledge, placing a switch in the main power to the Hazards has not worked. Idea being have stock Hazard switch turned on and hidden behind dash with new hazard switch being able to turn power on to the stock one - get my drift???

SO, found this wiring diag on the net, comes from a 2002 Nissan Centra - has 8 pins like the stag one so hopefully it is similar.

Question is - Where can I put a switch to affect only the hazards?

I feel more explaination may be due so fire away.

Diag attached is NOT for stagea and more for my reference, pinouts are incorrect colours too.

I can't remeber what the stagea hazard switch is like, I did figure it out when I put my alarm in but that was a while ago.

Going off that diagram (I saw it's not a stagea one) but you would interrupt pin 4 on the hazard switch, the wire labeled "W". It would have to be done at the switch so as not to interfere with the normal turn signals.

If you cant figure it out I can have a look at mine when I finish work in a couple hours and let you know which one to switch.

One small issue might be if you have an alarm wired like mine, I used my hazard signal to flash the indicators when the car was armed/disarmed. Might end up disabling this if that wire is switched.

ok. so basically you can't do it with just a two pin, one pole switch. which is what i'm guessing you have?

i can do it with a two pole switch, or a two pole relay. BUT....... either your indicators will still work with the ignition off. or you hazards will only work with the ignition on.

there is a more complex way using a few relays but that is more or less re-inventing and hazard switch from scratch to suit your needs.

give me a minute and i'll do a quick paint diagram of the hazard wiring.

edit: the diagram. so it basically the same as the one you found. i was wrong in saying that Pin 4 on your diagram would do it, i didn't realise that both left and right indicators would be linked with the button pushed on, so when ever you turned on an indicator both would flash confused.gif

if we remove the flasher signal and indicator lines from the switch (pins 1, 7, 8 on my diagram) and emulate that on an external switch you will get what you are after, though as a said before, indicators will still work when ignition is off, or hazards will only work when ignition is on depending on if you leave the hazard button in the on or off position, unless you throw another relay in the mix.

Still using originl switch - its hiding in the dash somewhere still plugged in but with another switch on the power wire - but this concept didnt work. Thanks for the offer anyway.

So, can anyone explain how to replicate the stagea hazard switch from "jaycar" components? I have limited electrical knowledge but if told what to do can usually get it done no worries.

just knocked this up for you. basically you just use a normal switch, the one you already have should be good enough i guess. then just use 3 automotive relays, just the black box bosch one. there will be one wire left over on the hazard switch, a red wire with blue trace, that is just an illumination wire for the globe in the original hazard switch.

    • Then today, I went to visit a man with an r33 hat Peter and Road and Race sorted the alignment. As it is being set up for general track/hillclimbs etc it has a heap of caster (7o), less camber than I am used to (1o front and 2o rear, as the caster looks after that in turns without the braking downsides), 3mm front toe out and 0 toe rear. Will see how that goes and track tyre wear to see if it does need more camber, but adjsustment is also limited with nismo arms and adjustable bushes at only 1 end. It does have a bent inner tie rod on the driver's side front but as it came up within spec I'll just leave that as is. So, that is getting close to my chapter of this story....could of tidy ups then a shakedown in early October before it finds a new home.
    • So, it went to Unigroup for a run in and tune on Friday, everything went (generally) well. In terms of fixes, the engine was good and there were no leaks. It needed plugs (I hadn't checked them because the coil pack cover was on a new engine and I couldn't imagine they weren't new.....but turns out the temporary plugs to just keep it sealed up were in there.....new plugs gapped to 0.8 and it was fine from there. Also, there was a little preload on the clutch slave which caused some slip. I haven't had the box off so I don't know what the clutch looks like; my guess it is brand new and the pedal had not been adjusted....backed that off a bit and it held fine. Last thing will have Dose crying....the idle especially when cold is a bit difficult between the cams, forward plenum, atmo blow off valve and an 80s air management system. It is fine when hot but a little uneven when cold, will see if I can sort or at least improve that one cold morning. Other than that, tuning went fine. It made 245 but was pulled back to 227 which 2 opportunities to improve in future. 1. The factory CAS is not great and was jumping around at high RPM, so Mark took 2 degrees out up top (that is why it stops making power and lost 20kw). Very safe this way and the extra power is available but will require a more modern ECU and better cam (or even better crank) sensor 2. The 2871 in factory housings is very big for a low mount, and the internal wastegate is too small, so it was creeping from mid range all the way to redline....the duty cycle on the boost controller is turned down a little for safety. That is much harder to fix, it would need a large external gate and that would require a whole bunch of other changes, so it will go as it is for now. It feels nice and healthy and safe, so should be good for about a billion laps like this.
    • what sort of caliper are they? If they are a slider and you gave everything a good clean, you might need to regrease the pins. My guess though is they will come good after some abuse as suggested above
