Hey guys, keen to get some feedback on this detector with the new cameras such as the van cameras etc that the cops have been using for the last year or so. (Assuming detectors are still legal vs jammers?)

I've heard the 78Pro is probably one of the only ones worth using in WA, just curious to hear how effective they are with all these new cameras that have been releasing. Assuming they are all still using the same band frequency it should still be worth purchasing?

I have heard a few people say that their detectors (dont know brand/model) still pick up the new stuff. It all works on the same principal however i thought that all detectors/jammers were banned now just like the east coast.

Since when are detectors illegal to use here?

I've had a pro78 for several years now and it was the single best purchase I have made for my cars. And yes, it does pick up all the new stuff (the new stuff is all Laser anyway).

Trying to find the news article is proving to be impossible... Was sure I heard the deadline for it announced on the radio this year sometime. Around the same time that my local electronics stores had a huge sale on radar detectors whistling.gif

Possibly not though, I may just be recalling the article last year about the 'impending' ban.

Yep this was discussed around a year ago based from this article:

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/mp/8047121/end-of-road-for-radar-detectors/

However as far as I know it was never finalised and they are still legal. Jammers are illegal though.

Can anyone confirm they have been pulled over with a detector and not fined?

I remember seeing it and thinking that wa was starting to come in line with the east.

Does that mean our <9km/h speeding fine will be increased from $75 to something over $150 & 0 demerit points to 1?

& the next speeding cap will be boosted from $150 to over $340...

*crys in Homer simpson voice* NNNOOO!!!

EDIT: Hold on a sec, I think the original thread regarding the "ban on radar detectors" was started by me! :P

completly off topic but your not a bleach fan by any chance?

on topic now Hey marty im think your right about the laws being changed to suit eastern states i think radar jammer/detectors are now illegal tems yet you can still buy them.

and i know countless ppl who've owned/still have pro78's and they still detect the new stuff but problem is they've already got you by the time it lets you know they're there so its 50/50 on being caught

Used to be until they started pumping >200 episodes & all the lame filler arc kicked in.

Now I mainly only watch animes that has about 25 episodes max.

Yeh I'm so positive I remember them making an announcement about them being banned... Like I can even remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard it. I just can't find anything to confirm lol.

Bummer...

& here I was thinking of buying one in the not so distance future. However I still see plenty of people (mainly dudes in euro 4x4s) having them on their dash.

Oh well that money saved can go towards getting my front bumper repaired instead.

I'd have to query those who think they are actually illegal to use in WA. A bill was brought in to ban them, which generated a whole lot of media coverage which made people think they were going to be banned for sure. But I have not found any information that the bill was actually passed and all of the websites I can see related to radar detectors in WA (Wikipedia, Whirlpool, Detector shops etc) all state they are yet to be deemed illegal.

I think I will go ahead and make my purchase unless someone can prove me wrong. :P

Yeh I remember that as well, perhaps that is what is confusing me. But I remember an actual date being set where they said after that date they would be illegal for use in WA. Probably not though, I can't find anything so I'm most likely mistaken.

That said... Not sure why you would bother spending money on it? Just don't speed? Surely if you're just using it for the occasional moment when you accidently go a few kms over, then you could rack up like 5 speeding fines before it actually became financially beneficial. And if you're not using it for that... Then shame on you sir, fleas of a thousand camels and so on.

Well I got a <9km/h speeding fine in September this year and it was $75 no demerits

If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
