as long as your radiators getting sufficient air flow and working really well and your oil is staying cool if its meaning getting a bigger core and moving it to get more air flow then you shouldnt have any problems with "Air pressure" being an issue. Its not like im wanting to do superlap around eastern creak and every bit of R&D for carbon bonnets is vital for my engines survival, especially for a daily driving car. That said all Im after is to get the temp in the engine bay down so the intake isnt chocking itself. I personally dont think it matters where vents are as long as it works temp wise and you dont get water damage to coil packs.

As I've said in numerous threads now, the cheap bonnets won't have the R&D in them to have a design that doesn't cause problems with low pressure zones. So in actual fact, with cheap bonnets you will most likely notice an increase in temperatures.

Exactly. A Ally bonnet is that light compared to a carbon one. There is sweet FA weight difference in it.

Cf z tune copy bonnet was much lighter then the oem Gtr r34 bonne when I felt them both to compare., for full track car, I'd go the cf bonnet. For the street, stick to oem. It only gives you extra rep cool points for running a cf bonnet on the street

I personally don't have experience with them but im not saying they dont have issues. As stated above if you dont know about a certain product that i was talking about, then dont make claims about it.

And i know of a few gtrs that are running them without any problems except water drainage and do provide cooler engine temps but I'm not backing the copies and there cooling efficiency untill I have tested myself.

And lets be honest Hanaldo... If "pressure zones using R&D were so critical with engine bay temps for a normal daily road cars, why do you see so many cars driving with say no bonnets, aka rotaries and hot rods etc, so many drive with out bonnets to 1- show off and 2 - keep engine bay temps down. Ive never seen a car with over heating issues from using a C/F bonnets in various designs on any car if you have your cooling systems working good.

I recon 9 times out of 10 they are only for looks thats it. My sti bonnet weighed 13kg and my Cf bonnet for it weighed 11 kg there wasnt much in it so really theres no weight advantage unless you go twin layer CF or so which would be no use for the road because of crumple factors in a crash.

im just going on facts of what ive seen and heard, obviously i havent owned every cf bonnet in the world but at the same time in NZ they are very common and its not hard to see and talk to people about their experiences.

Gonna have to disagree on that one mate. To me, it felt like there was only 1-2kg difference in weight. The stock R34 GTR bonnet is VERY light.

all high performance jap cars bonnets are light, Evo's, STI's, GTR's Honda Type R & NSX they are all light alloy bonnets and it would be difficult to find an off the shelf CF bonnet genuine or not to be significantly lighter than them. Especially one that would be considered legal or even safe enough for the road. I would consider 10-13kg light, I bet my gts-t bonned weighs an excess of 20kg hahaha actually does anybody have an idea in the weight lol?

Yes, I agree with you on this one. I just tested some CF bonnets and Al ones and you're right - not much of a huge difference. The truth is, most people choose to go vented CF bonnet for looks more than performance.

Depends a lot on how the CF bonnets are made though. If they used a lot of layers or didn't get rid of enough epoxy resin then the weight will add up. The resin actually weighs a hell of a lot, usually the peel ply they use to absorb the excess will way a lot more than the entire carbon fiber structure.

I'm talking about the 100% CF ones - all copies and half FB ones are disregarded as they're still quite heavy and are just for show.

So am I. Making carbon fiber is not an easy thing, you need a fair bit of experience to get a top quality result. It's very very easy to use too much resin or not soak up enough excess or build too many layers etc. and then all of a sudden you have a carbon fiber part that is heavier than the part you took off. Don't take it for granted that a 100% carbon fiber part is going to be light, it depends on how it was made.

That said, I'm sure the big companies churning out CF parts all day long know what they are doing. But you pay for it. Carbon fiber is expensive to make and therefore expensive to buy. I wouldn't be so confident that the cheap CF parts you see will be so good. Then again they might be. Its a gamble. Look at this for an example:

$4000 for doors, $2000 for boot lid, $2000 for bonnet, $3500 for dash... That's how expensive it is to make quality carbon fiber parts.

Gtst bonnet approx 19kg Gtr is 10kg big difference!

LOL far out ^^^ I guess im not surprised, its an effort just to lift it haha. even the cheap common (heavy) cf bonnet would be a big weight saver. Still im after the vents for cooling rather than the weight purpose. maybe 1 day.

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
