Mungy's New Build

Recommended Posts

Hey guys after a whole 3 months ( lol ), I couldnt resist and got myself another skyline

Bit of a project just to get it to a drivable standard, but im hoping everyone will put their imput in and help me solve problems as they arise cheers.gif

So I found a 93 R32 skyline, first imported in 2002, and has the following done

SUSPENSION:

Adjustable coilovers all round, not sure of brand, from memory he said Bilstien ?

Cusco adjustable everything else

whiteline swaybars front and rear

looks like nolothane bushes but ill double check, they are abit dirty

DRIVE TRAIN:

2 way diff, not sure of brand

custom tailshaft to suit RB25 box

RB25 gearbox

Extreme heavy duty clutch

ENGINE:

standard RB20 out of a ceffy

RB25 turbo

MASSIVE front mount intercooler

Falcon coilpack setup

Remapped ECU

Z32 AFM

Wheels:

Enkei 17x9

So I got her home and started the stip to clean the shit out of it and fix any issues that may be hidden from view

about 80% of the way to fully stripping the front and there is just so much dirt and shit everywhere

need to replace a few things, like the stupid attempt to drill out holes in the coil pack cover, who the hell drills 5 holes instead of making one nice large hole to fit all the leads thru?

Im not 100% sure, but it looks like the power steering pump is the wrong one? I only have one connection on the pump but 2 lines and none of the lines fit up to the one connection. Is that because the engine is from a Ceffy?

Wiring loom is also from a Ceffy so im getting the wiring redone on tuesday coming to an RB20 loom and should be all sweet after that

need to replace the front passenger light and indicator both cracked so if u have the late model lights for sale let me know

ill get some pics up to show you the intercooler piping, its just f**king retarted and i need new piping lol

also need to replace all wheel studs, one of them is snapped off so given they did that to one, who knows what the rest are like.

will update tomoro with some more pics

post-75339-0-62348500-1326204264_thumb.jpg

post-75339-0-14867800-1326204444_thumb.jpg

And the new setup! courtesy of JJR

post-75339-0-20421100-1326204503_thumb.jpg

I then went out and bought all new fluids, coolant oils ect and even got a spare set of plugs incase these were shit

After realising the stud on the rear wheel was broken, i immediately went out to buy 1 stud to replace it...... came back with 20 studs and a set of D1 wheel nuts..... wtf is wrong with me.

OK so been cleaning A SHIT LOAD gone thru 8 cans of degreaser to get the crap off the car, but it looks soooo much nicer

post-75339-0-92450800-1326204825_thumb.jpg

took off the cooler to sell it so i could buy a decent one, turns out it already was lol.... A KLS cooler, not my first choice but hey its still a great cooler

post-75339-0-46054300-1326204895_thumb.jpg

Went out again for more upgrades.... came back with a new headlight...... y do i do this to myself?

post-75339-0-42143100-1326205011_thumb.jpg

OK so i installed the new cooler piping and it looked efin awesome

post-75339-0-92771600-1326205106_thumb.jpg post-75339-0-55473200-1326205123_thumb.jpg

Then i stuck on the headlights

post-75339-0-93175700-1326205153_thumb.jpg

And FML now that I attached the front mount properly with brackets underneath the cooler, the front bar looks like a fat man trying on a skin tight shirt....it just wont fit man... FML

so out came the choppy tools ( Stanley knife and hacksaw ) to get it to fit

cooler piping sits out too far and front mount sits too far froward cause its a monster 100mm thick

choppy chop

post-75339-0-30904600-1326205393_thumb.jpg post-75339-0-49301900-1326205439_thumb.jpg

and a test fit

post-75339-0-73173900-1326205495_thumb.jpg

then sum more choppy chop...then more choppy chop......AND FFS MORE EFIN CHOPPY CHOP, now it will fit

post-75339-0-76395800-1326205572_thumb.jpg post-75339-0-19279900-1326205594_thumb.jpg

Should i paint the cooler pipes black? cause they shine like a bald mans oily head, and i dont want to accidentaly blind the cops with my bling and have them pull me over to say hai

anyway Ill leave you all with a picture of my pod to stare at, the car will be wired up tomorow and hopefully running by the end of this week, will post update soon cheers.gif

DISASTER STRIKES!!!!!!!

got the car running today, turns out the standard blow off was leaking horribly causing all sorts of issues.

sorted the blow off, but for some strange reason the car still missed at lower RPM, soon as the RPM picked up ran like a dream

reving and listening and checking and thinking......wtf could the problem be??????

had quater tank of fuel....checked the fuel....still has a quater......walked to the engine bay again, the disaster.......

my brother looks into the cabin and says." OH so your fuel guage doesnt actually work"

I said " what? yes it does i just looked at it it was at a quater! "

look into the cabin myself and see the fuel guage is at 0, wtf? how did we use all that fuel? shit i thought this thing must run super f**king ultra rich

turn the car off......wtf it ran on !!!!! like fuel was still being pumed in! WTF?

cranked the car over to start it again....car wont start

"OMFG I JUST HAD IT RUNNING" i thought

then...out of the cabin......smoke.......

dam thats alot of exhaust smoke my brother says, i smell it and, OH SHIT that not exhaust!

POP THE BOOT i shout, up comes the boot and what looks like a mushroom cloud floats up, notice the fuel pump cover is hot enough to fry some eggs

I quickly disconnect the battery, and look at the loom, all burnt and melted together.........

notice theres some dodged up wiring, looks like one black wire twisted onto 3 others with blue tape around it, one of which goes to the fuel pump, all chared and melted

Ill get some pics up soon as i get a chance to show you.

just to make sure im gonna rip out all the interior and remove all worthless dodgy wiring from the car BEFORE i start the engine again lol.

I hope to god the short didnt kill my ECU or any other important bits.

    • Did some maintenance on the MX5, did the engine oil and filter which was uneventful, then I drained the coolant to put in the new reservoir and a thermostat, reservoir took 5 minutes  The thermostat, well that took.........3 bloody hours, what a job, the issue was the 3 bolts holding it on, one was easy, 2 were hidden and required a few 1/4 drive extensions, 1 more than I had, and a 1/4 swivel, which I also didn't have, and a good amount of playing contortionist  Getting the 2 unseen bolts back on was a time consuming nervous nightmare, as I couldn't see where they went there was alot of stabbing and hoping for the best, trying to line up a 8 mm bolt straight, which you cannot actually see or get a hand in there, with a 1/4 swivel in the mix was a nightmare Anyways, it's done now, all burped out, and run up to temp a few times, happily no leaks thank Jebus After the thermostat fiasco I decided I need a few mental health days away from tools before doing the rest of the servicing on it As for the Dunnydoore, it had the aircon regassed and it has a clean bill of health, thinking about taking it out on Monday for a cruise down the coast to look at some houses if weather permits
    • In other important race car news, instead of fixing the race car I changed the crank seals on the chainsaw, because wood burner Some damn tight (and lock tighted) m6 head bolts Who knew plastic crank cases were a thing! Quick tip, don't trust the youtube videos that say you can pull the old seals out with the head on in a husky 440e...not true, their crank seal tucks in behind the cover both sides. I'm not sure I'm a psychopath, but these things are damn loud....hope I can put all the bits back in the right place    Happily, it is now back to turning fallen trees into a combination of firewood logs and wood chips....just need a clear day to get into it properly
    • I've got 60L of e85 in there at the moment
    • Don't forget to make sure the tank is full to the brim before you try to replace the fuel pump too, that is an essential step.
    • No, 260RS/4wd stagea is 33 GTR/GTS4 double wishbone all round, not struts. The 2wd cars are confusingly strut front. At there rear there is one balljoint at the outer end of the lower control arm. If you have HICAS (my Stagea doesn't, but I think 260RS did, there will be a balljoint of sorts where the HICAS arm attaches to the rear of the hub At the front, there are ball joints either end of the lower control arm, plus the tie rod end for the steering arm
