yeah it would go from being "there's a defect station on <insert road here>" to "there's a RBT on <insert road here>", and to be honest, we don't want drunk drivers avoiding RBT's. those dumbasses need to get fisted by the long arm of the law

the number and variety of different 'checkpoints' across the country at anyone time would be hard to keep track of, not downloaded it yet but i hear trapster is good for that kind of thing. Also posting in your state section might help it from turning it into a non stop feed only relevant to a sixth of the readers.

+1 on zero sympathy for drunk drivers, had one nearly take out the silvia in front of me on an early morning cruise to wakefield once, we all followed the guy till he careered off onto the grass on the middle of the hume (divider thingy) and took his keys before waiting for the cops.

they were a little confused upon turning up to find a bunch of imports with a old drunk dude in a beat up VN under citizens arrest :turned:

missed the bit for rbts, rbts are a good thing the less drunks on the road the better. what's worse some one with a vent to atmo bov or someone that blows .12 on the bag.

cops need to get there priorities straight...

i really wouldnt appose to a defect station if they werent out to get all the guys that drive modified Jap cars

they seem to make an extra effort to pull over anything resembling a 90's jap car

while on the other hand there are that many bombs on the road that have bald tyres/worn brakes/brake lights out and bumpers half hanging off and theyre worried about a couple of pod filters

anyway not much we can do about it... just gotta

a. not drive like a di$khead

b. pick the right time of day to drive

trapster is ok, but the info is only good if someone has already gone past the location and posted it. you could have a speed camera set up for hours, but if no other trapster users go past then it won't show up on the app.

yeah i dont think it would have helped me with the radar at Kiama heights as even i didnt see him and he pinged me!

unless maybe someone going in the other direction...still u wouldnt be able to just count on it and hoon around blithely expecting every radar to have been spotted in time.

Hey pat, there's allways cops hiding around that area, see em all the time in my travels. :glare:

its hardly a wonder though - I see more P platers flouting the rules driving beat up R33 GTS-T's than ever, touch wood I never had any major hassles, but my car didn't really scream out BOGAN either.

mods on here are trying to foster cooperation with police blah blah blah, but the rules on modifications in most states are beyond farking stupid.

LOL yeah people down there have been telling me that eveer since i copped it, its ok though..i like to learn the hard way..

agree with your sentiments re regs Boz but weirdly im still yet to be defected for anything.

knock on wood.

Ok, so I know all cars should be lawful and engineered and all, but seriously, why target people that are heading to an event that is trying to take stupid driving off the street?

It's defect stations like this that I think would deter people from going.

Soo.. if your car is lawful, engineered and doesn't attract attention... what do you have to worry about? The fact you're going to an off-street event is TOTALLY irrelevant if your car has been illegally modified. If you're an entrant and your mods aren't legal there are things called car trailers. If you're a punter driving down then your car should be legal. Yeah the rules are restrictive but you should know what they are, if you go outside them you're taking a calculated risk and accept that.

You won't get defected for bullshit items unless you fail the attitude test. I've always been polite and courteous to cops and they barely even look at the car. I'm sure a real good look would find something but don't give them a reason to, and they won't!

I've also been down to the nats a few times, kept my head down and behaved myself and didn't even get looked at. If you drive down all "look at me" with chrome wheels and a fart cannon exhaust what the f..k do you expect to happen?

ahh the point is moreso that events like Summernats give enthusiasts the chance to tear it up without fear of police intervention (or they should be anyway).

I doubt there would be a single "legally" modified Skyline on here, and if they cant find anything and decide they want to dick you, they will.

The point is that driving a poorly modified car from Sydney to Canberra can be dangerous. So if police see said examples they are welcome to defect them.

Yes, AT the nats, tear it up on the burnout pad go crazy drink alcohol and leer at women. Whatever. What you do at the nats is irrelevant, what you are driving to get there is.

Like I said in my post, they won't bend you over if you don't give them a reason to.

Not repeating myself again, peace out.

Well i see where your going with that post and in a perfect world you would be right. unfortunately at least in this part of the world that is not the case, cops often pull over cars based purely on the fact that they look fast but cost less than a hundred grand ..and more than half the time seem to give defects out based on no evidence whatsover.

The number of stories i have heard on here and in RL about people being defected for STOCK parts on their car is just ridiculous, the only solution is to have only trained HWP who are also mechanically qualified to be able to hand out defects for anything under the bonnet.

Tyres running on no tread (other than semi slicks of course) and other obvious things go nuts, but the discretion given to them is clearly being abused and something needs to be done to reign it in.

/end rant

    • The speedo's can be very conservative, when my Mazda NC MX5 speedo is showing 118kph, the GPS, and a calibrated radar.... cop mate.....hits me at around 110kph +/- 1 or 2 kph, and that is on a 215/45 17, stock tyres size is 205/45 17 as well, so weirdly conservative with stock tyre size When my Commodore speedo red 116kph GPS had me at 110kph After doing some offset and clearance measurements to see what can fit the NC on 17x8 +40, without guard rolling or rubbing anything at my current ride height, I've decided that when my tyres are toast, I'm going to fit 225/45 17 and see where that gets me IRT actual speed of my speedo and GPS/radar From the online calculator I should be still be doing around 5kph under an actual 110kph when the speedo is showing 110kph My ADHD requires that when I'm doing 110kph on the speedo, that the actual road speed is actually really close to that, and not alot slower And going from 205 to 225 still keeps the car within the %/mm allowable in the NSW vehicle rules and regulations, which is nice, as long as I'm looking at the latest version that is.....LOL https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-13.464-Light-vehicle-modifications-Vehicle-Standards-Information-No-6-November-2013.pdf
    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
