Solar Charger On R34 Gtt

I bought a solar charger for my R34 GTT and im curious to know will the solar panel charger with the cigarette lighter connector charge the system. I know the cigarette lighter will not produce power when the car is off and only when the ignition is on but im wondering if it will allow power to flow from the socket to the battery and through the system?

Ive seen alot of other model cars with these in them and really curious to know

I have had one of these in the past and had no confidence that it would actually charge the battery through the cig lighter socket so I wired it direct to the battery terminals.

The best way to test this would be to set it up in the sun plugged in as suggested and then disconnect the battery and put a multi metre across the leads that connect to the battery terminals - if there is current there then it is charging and all is good otherwisre the charging via cig lighter option is crap.
