Hey guys

I've spent the last hour looking through old threads, so I have searched but just want to ask some questions to people that HAVE put R34 GT-R brakes on their R32 GT-R. No need to sell me some other option as already have the calipers, rotors and pads.

I know you need to re-drill the R32 GT-R hubs to accept the 14mm bolts of the R34 GT-R caliper. That seems easy enough. Just use a drill with the right size drill bit.

Questions

1. Do the rears just bolt straight on? Does the R32 handbrake set-up still work fine inside R34 rotor? Do you use the R32 GT-R brake lines or R34 brake lines?

2. On the front, do R32 GT-R brake lines bolt straight up? If so will order some R32 GT-R braided lines.

3. Can you get away with using R32 GT-R master cylinder? Or do you HAVE to change to R34 GT-R?

Any help would be appreciated. Better to go into it armed with correct knowledge than finding anything out the hard way

Yep done this conversion myself...

Q1. Yes same size bolt m12, but the thread pitch is 1.5mm on brembos, the sumitomo's are 1.25mm, so just get 2 new bolts, no drilling required for rear..

Q2. Yes handbrake cables and set up all bolts on no issues, yes factory front brake lines bolt on, but I went braided lines, I used a set of HEL r32/33 braided lines and it bolted on no issues...

Q3. Yes u can use 32 master cylinder, works fine, I havent had any issues, maybe upgrade to 33/34 later if u got the $$$, but not a neccessity..

Hope this helps, any Q's pm me and I"ll try to help u out...

You need to bash the backing plates about to make everything fit. I removed them entirely and metal reflective taped over the upper link bush as it is close to the rotor. Also I used the callipers from a 33 and found I had to get some hoses made up as the 33 lines were too short.

Not sure I had some F40 callipers on the front.

You can get an R32 master cylinder out of an V spec with a larger bore.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
