just replaced all the water hoses under the inlet manifold, i took the manifold off to make it easier, after putting it all back together i couldnt start it, realised that i had forgotten to plug in the air meter under the manifold, eventually i got it started (took a while tho) untill i got it started the power fc would not display a temp at all but once started it constantly displays 150 temp, the dash gauge sits on half once warmed (where it nomally sits), i also tried removing the temp sensor plugs (3 of them, i think there all temp) one of them would kill the dash gauge but none of them would change the power fc, since i have had it running it feels very doughy and breaks down a bit up top, im assuming that is due to the temp reading and the power fc changing the map to compensate for the high temp reading.

Any one else have this problem or have any idea how to fix it?

sounds like its earthing out somewhere. check the plug and wiring. also check the 2 earth points that bolt down next to the 2 temp senders.

power fc will be pulling timing and adding fuel if its reading 150, which might be the cause of your breakdown

It pulls timing above 90 or 100I can't remember but yeah sounds like its either grounded or shorted out internally returning max voltage/temperature. Unplug the temp sensor see if it drops to 0 or throws an error. If you got the commander check the voltage of wtrt on sensor page. If you have fc edit raise the threshold for timing cut to 151c until you get it fixed and see if that fixes the power loss.

No change when I disconnect the temp sensor, the hand controller does not show am error and from memory the voltage is 0.08.

I don't have any thing to connect it to a lap top, can I raise the threshold via the hand controller?

I will clean the earths when I get home and see if the helps, hopefully its some thing simple like that.

Found out what the problem was, I had 2 of the plugs in the wrong spot, but now it reads around -30 and wont start, wouldn't start today with it still reading 150 took a lot of cracking yesterday to get it going (flattened the battery then used jumper leads to another car), I have another sensor here off another motor but it has a different plug on it and i don't have the loom to suit it

Seems way to high. Something is defenatly not right somewhere between the sensor and ecu i know the signal for the speedo splits in two at some point cause the wire was cut to my ecu and my power fc showed 0km/h but my dash speed worked fine, so maybe the water temp does something similar and thats why your gauge works

Can you pull the sensor out and stick it in a container of boiling water to see what readings you get? Not sure what amount of coolant will come out or if you have some spare to top it up though

gauge and ecu have completely seperate sensors and wiring. the smaller sensor with the slip on single wire is for the dash. the larger sensor with the 2 pin plug is for the ecu.

off topic but the speedo sender is hooked up to the speedo which then has an output wire that goes to the ecu

gauge and ecu have completely seperate sensors and wiring. the smaller sensor with the slip on single wire is for the dash. the larger sensor with the 2 pin plug is for the ecu.

This. I think its red. Last I recall my voltage was 2.4v. Sensor is about 60, very common they fail with this age.

Got a new sensor today, seems to work but I think it reads a little high, my original sensor was red/marone and was rectangle, the one on the other motor had an arc on one side and the rest was more rounded as well but it was the same color as the other, ill get some pics tomorrow.

Thanks to every one for there input, greatly appreciated.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
