sydking
So much to do, though not enough organs to fund it all. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/397041-5s-on-a-26ltr/page/3/#findComment-6331201 Share on other sites
asps91
Well I'm in a 34 so I still have 4k left to go before next gear haha but I never dropped out of boost. Once it was on, it was ON!!! On my setup, it started to build around 3800rpms so anything under that was a little boring. My old R33 GTR had -7s and I thought that was a really good setup, managed 320kws and the response was excellent. Perfect for track conditions but being such small turbos, they ran out of puff top end. I believe GTRSean has -9s which I've also been in and those were great turbos too. I do believe Levinboy has them too and his produced pretty good results. Did you have any other work done to the car, from my research there are alot of guys making full boost with -5's around 4k with adjustable cam gears. 5k is an awuful long time! lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/397041-5s-on-a-26ltr/page/3/#findComment-6331449 Share on other sites
bored33
Yeah I had alot of work done to the car but still only managed that much which is why I have converted to a single T04Z hehe Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/397041-5s-on-a-26ltr/page/3/#findComment-6331737 Share on other sites
a20089
2.6 = SS's/-9's. Without a big dollar head and setup. 2.8 and bigger = -5's. It's that simple, unless you're a nuckle dragger 'drag racer' that likes 'peaky power' which feels quicker.... Then they get smashed around twisties by a car that has 100 KW less peak figure. There seems to be a consensus on this, but I'll put some basic facts into this thread to dispute this quote. Knowing every car and driver is also different also, but I have -5 on a stock rb26 with the basic upgrades, ECU, Boost, injectors, fuel pump, air intake, cam gears (currently set to 0) 20PSI 310kw+. This seems very common based on the rb26 thread. The car is fully stock apart from the engine and yes it is laggy to my likings, but not much more so then when it was stock or others I have driven with -7's or GT'ss. Making good boost around 4000 and coming on full around 4500. However there's not many GTR’s getting around Wakefield at the NSWSAU days faster than this car, particularly if you discount the race cars. So yes the -5's can push a track car and fast, there's nothing wrong with them and those -7, -9 or gtss will not leave you for dead, it's not that simple. Saying that, yes I did purchase the -5's with the dream of putting a stroker kit in the car one day, So not really disagreeing, just pointing out there's nothing wrong with -5's on a RB26 without internal work. Hadouken
hmmmm... I see what you're saying. But you are making about the same as me on 2 psi more boost! Once again, show me a dyno sheet with boost and rpm. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/397041-5s-on-a-26ltr/page/3/#findComment-6335789 Share on other sites
a20089
Will do, I don't like the format of the current one I have (if I can find it), so next dyno I'll post up in the appropriate thread. Of cause different dyno's, setting etc make them not the best to compare unless they are side by side, so they could easily miss a 200rpm difference. And yes the -5's seem to like either a little more boost or a larger displacement to get to their sweet spot, so if 300kw is your goal then go smaller, if you want the option of more power you should consider the -5's. Hadouken
lol, whats wrong with the format? looks too laggy? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/397041-5s-on-a-26ltr/page/3/#findComment-6338775 Share on other sites
a20089
It does not have RPM duh... Have you seen the car at a SAUNSW trackday anytime recently? And any of the multiple video's posted from the in car cam. I am also not disputing a smaller turbo comes on sooner, physics tells you that, just the use of -5's will not leave you for dead in the twisties. Again I am "just pointing out there's nothing wrong with -5's on a RB26 without internal work." And they get better when you get some major work done. Deano 1
his my dyno sheet with -5s and 3-3.2-3.4inch exhuast, on Bp98 super safe for the track and my crazy "not giving a fark driving" and heres alil bit of it in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWklfwukDAs ive got all the bits coming for a 2.5inch to 4inch merge and 2x 4inch straight though mufflers, plus jez just ordered in some ID2K injectors and Twin Nismo pumps, so there will be an e85 tune coming in the next month or so. time will tell!!! MsR
hey just a late entry here. ive got 2530's on my stock bottom end 26 as well with some headwork and yes it is a little laggy but the top end feels great. currently running a Reytec ecu which is getting replaced with a platinum pro with new fuel setup to support e85, JEM reckons can push to the 400ish awkw mark with this setup. currently on 7psi (wwwaaayyy out of its efficiency range) it makes 216awkw, but dialling a couple more psi sees it hit 250 easily. this is with cams (un dialled) slight port and all the usual supporting mods (stock airbox) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/397041-5s-on-a-26ltr/page/3/#findComment-6343775 Share on other sites
Hadouken
Hmmmm... Are you going to go to the 400kw range? If your just staying around 300-350 then you could have gone a smaller turbo with e85.
