thats correct, i hav an issue of fast fours where there is a s2000 with spoon headers, hi flow cat and full exhuast, spoon ecu and ARC airbox, it had also had significant weight reduction(softtop converted to permanant hardtop), it ran 13.9, maybe he was a shit driver but obiviously its a highly strung engine with not much potential for modding unless forced induction, nos, stroker kit is used. whereas on a r33, a full exhuast, arc airbox and a power FC will give u much more bang for your buck

The M3 engines are a work of art, the CNC porting job is absolutely stunning - you can cut your finger on the edges it's that sharp. The rods are pretty good, although they aren't that reusable, they are compacted metal? (forget the actual term used) and the rod caps are actually broken off after the rods are machined.

For a factory engine it's a marvel!

i think the M3 does pushes the envelope for a 6cyl at pushing out 252kw

M3's are great, but i doubt they are near their limit.

Dad's 996 Porsche comes with 250kw out of the factory. Then you can stick on air filters, higher flowing exhausts, different plenums etc etc.

It hard to say what an engines limit is unless you have unlimited funds to find out.

As for 7500 in an RB30, there is a bloke in QLD who runs an RB30 in his VK Commo race car. he disconnected the rev limiter and he reckons he revs it to 9000 with nothing more than a lumpier cam. Admitedly he doesn't care if it blows up in 20 starts, but its still a considerable amount past 7500.

I think what is mean by rev past 7500rpm, is that there is a harmonic vibration/warpage fo the block between about 7000-7500rpm, if you take to long to rev through this range your crank will twist like licorice. there are ways around this, like line boring techniques.. or $12K harmonic balancers

hardly true about nothing up top.

Depends on blower matching more than anything else.

And the type too.

I'd be interested to see anyone even create an RB36  ROFL.

And how cant an RB30 rev out past 7500?

There are too many RB motors that i can think of that go past this without a drama.

Some twin cam (26head) some not (sohc)

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
