Skyline Musuem in Nagano

It's Golden Week here in Japan (National holiday time) so I took the opportunity to check out the second Nissan Prince Skyline Musuem in Nagano (there's another one in Ibaraki).

I was expecting it to be a quiet place (much like the Ibaraki branch) but was pleasantly suprised to find it absolutely packed out with enthusiasts. Apparently the museum has recently undergone a renovation. The car parks reminded me of those at the Nismo festival in 2002 - door to door skylines as far as the eye could see. As luck would have it, in addition to masses of GTR's, a 4 door skyline club had organised a meet and there was an extremely good turnout. Well, enough of my ramblings, onto the pics!

The way in...

After seeing this I'm very tempted to paint my calipers red :)

And on into the museum. The museum is located near a small park, with various other attractions, a skating rink, some kids rides, a wonderful view of lake Suwa and a few restaurants. There are regular meets held there, and judging by the photos inside the museum, it's been a popular place with skyline enthusiasts for many years...

The museum also has an impressive collection of model/die-cast skylines...

That's about all from me, lest my hosting site start moaning about bandwidth!

I can thoroughly recommend the museum, I had a great time, as did my son! :)

Sorry Dino, I was hoping to get a lot more pics, but was constantly being hassled by my better half and newborn! :) Bless him :) If you're planning on visiting the museum sometime this week, let us know and I'll join you if I can - would be nice to use my liner to get there (instead of the Family wagon :)) and also try for some better pics - I recommend a tripod for the indoor musuem shots, the lighting is quite dim)

Here's a couple more GTR's...

Justin: If you and Toy and coming over to Yamanashi by car later in the year, then the musuem is actually on the way to my place (almost :)) so if you want, we could arrange to meet at the Okaya Interchange and go from there. :)

Here's the url of the museum: Prince Museum

and their access map:

Dave...cheers for the info. I'll probably head over next week or the next. I want to go there with my brother, who gets here this friday. Plus I've already tried going somewhere during Golden Week...just don't work. You end up making a journey twice as long what with all the traffic and queues. I think I'll just chill out this week! No driving for me;)...or I'll jut end swearing at every car on the road:D

Thinking about it, waiting till next week is probably a good idea. We were pretty lucky with the traffic yesterday, but as you're aware travelling during Gridlock Week can be frustrating to say the least! :)

It'll be quite a haul for you, usually takes me the best part of 3 hours from Kofu to Yawara, most of that is stuck in traffic through Tokyo...

Yep, long drive, but as usual the tiring part has to be the traffic on the Shuto rather than the blast on the Joban & Chuo!

BTW...there should be a GTROC meeting coming up this month(usually mid-May). I'll have to find out where it is. They held it at the Skyline museum a few times I believe
