400kwgtr
Anyone got any ideas which turbos would be better for my r32 gtr. I am looking at a new pair of r34 gtr turbos (i have read that these are still ceramic wheels?) ball bearing. Or a pair of reco r32 gtr turbos with steel wheels? I figure that seeing as the r34s are bb they would spool up quicker but being ceramic i am limited to 15psi or so. The r32 turbos may not be quite as responsive but having steel wheels would allow more boost without the worry of the ceramic wheel ending up stuck up the cat converter. Your help would be appreciated. thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/40067-which-is-better-r34-bb-or-r32-steel-turbos/ Share on other sites
RS500
as you said it dude, with the bb R34 ceramic turbos, you are limited to you 15-16psi, whereas the R32 steel wheel turbos will allow more boost/power and hence last you longer. If you're interested, a friend of mine is selling a pair of R32 Nismo (steel wheel) GTR turbos from his R32 GTR. send me a PM and i'll pass his details onto you. R32_GTS4T
Just my 2cents...there is a lot more difference between the R32 and R34 turbos than just the ceramic/steel wheels - completely different specs (the R34 are almost the same spec as GT2510's). I know the 15lb limit sounds like a pain, but I had R34 turbos on my GTR, and they kicked ass compared to the R32 ones. Spool up is fantastic (boost starting at 2000, hitting 1 bar at 3100), and they held all the way to 8000. With these turbos (in not the best shape), Nismo front pipes, 3.5" zorst, and adjustable cam gears, I made 225rwkw on a 31deg day with the torque curve of a big block V8. Turns out the oil seals are stuffed and the bearings a bit sus (they bind a little when trying to spin them by hand) so I've now got a set of R34 N1's...bigger again (similar spec to GT2530's) and they have steel wheels...these are supposed to be the ducks guts for street use. Haven't tried them yet cause I've had to pull the motor and rebuild it (spun a bigend bearing ) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/40067-which-is-better-r34-bb-or-r32-steel-turbos/#findComment-866565 Share on other sites
jezzrrr
Go with the 34 BB's they are an awesome turbo - I agree very similar to 2510's. I run 18 psi on mine no problems Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/40067-which-is-better-r34-bb-or-r32-steel-turbos/#findComment-867172 Share on other sites
