Alternator Rebuild In Canberra

Hi guys

Ppl are saying get current alternator reconditioned instead of a second hand one.. What do ppl think if reco where can I get it done in Canberra area.

Or buy good quality second hand one

From what I remember our hitachi alternator's can't be rebuilt. Try a Bosch RB30 alternator (from VL commodore or R31 skyline), slots straight in and might require alittle wire modification (depends on car).

Mine is a 23100-70t16 and I just rebuilt it. Couldnt find brushes to suit but ashdowns came up with a pack of 10 brushes for $8 at a similar size and it's as good as new. not sure what brand it is. They actually said I had to get a new regulator for $160 but I found part numbers online then annoyed them again and they found em. Can't see why any alternator couldn't be rebuilt unless it has a major component failed.

There's no garuantee with a second hand alt. I would go a recon unit for sure. Or at least separate the 2nd hand unit for a quick look and see if brushes are ok and bearings are good

My main issue with the car is not enough power to run car which is show no charge back to batterie

Has to be disassembled to get to the regulator. Might need brushes by the sound of it

gettin an alternator from a reck sane.model for free so will try that and go from there

free my brother works there same.model as.mine should.work if not ill buy a new one.. you no of anywhere to get a new one.. have had one quote 560 fitted

The Bosch one I quoted from memory is like $200

Never looked into a new one for a skyline. Bought a new one for a vy commodore recently for 250.

yeah once i pull it if Wilkinson get my mate to check the damage and we can go from there should have it off by weekend
