The HKS picture looks to be a kit for a 200SX, but it is the same intercooler i installed on my R32 recently.

I too looked at the AVO unit, but check it is the core that as 600x300x90, as i think this may include end tanks. The HKS kit fitted my car with no real dramas, although the pipes are powder coated/painted mild steel and look to have been formed using hydraulic tube bender, (no mandrel bends).

The HKS core itself has tubes that are smaller than my spare GTR core. It would seem to flow well enough as with the cooler installed my boost has gone from10-11 psi to 13-14 psi. It has essentially made my boost controller obsolete, as i leave it turned off and run the std boost which now sits @13-14psi (stock turbo)

As for cooling i have a thermocouple that i want to mount before the manifold, but until then all i can say is that even after 8-9 laps @15psi flat around eastern creek, the inlet of the cooler is very hot to touch, the outlet is still ambient temperature, the crossover pipe behind the radiator is again very hot. So next is HPC coating or a similar solution to heateing of air downstream of IC. Rather agricultural means of testing but it may give you an idea

Is this too much information. In all i found the AVO bar & plate GTR cooler a better option than the GTST kit, but it means custom piping. If the AVO kit is alum piping than i would suggest this may be a better option than HKS

    • @Supernanoyour car has ended up in my hands and I was wondering if there has been any work done to the motor?
    • Sigh... yeah OEM mount rear battery, very R33, very demure, very mindful.
    • Would need a substantial current draw in the car to make a bunch of sparks. Obvs to now test resistance to ground of the car's B+ lead. If there's a short there, you'll see it. Only likely place for that, as you suspect is alternator. But there is also the possibility that rats have had a chew on some insulation. Shitbox has the battery in the boot, yeah? Plenty of cable to attack.
    • Oh, I thought of that too... I disconnected the battery and hooked up the leads direct to the car without the battery in place. Sparks... I suspect the following: Alternator has decided to kill itself Starter has decided to kill itself I'll recharge the battery, then unplug both, and go from there. The above might take 6 months - however I did buy a Victron 15 AMP trickle charger, apparently it's better than CTEK?
