hello every one, im new to rb26's, I purchased my r32 gt-r last friday, i never intended on buying one but i am the happiest person now that i own one. The car has the following modifications

ENGINE

-Ross forged racing pistons

-Ndc race bearings

-Extended crank

-N1 oil pump

-R33 gtr N1 steel wheel turbos

-Aftermarket stainless down pipes

-3 inch cat back

-Mines ecu

-Trust front mount intercooler

-50mm stainless radiator

-New starter motor

-Clear timing cover

SUSPENSION

-ISC Coilovers

-Adjustable camber

-Caster arms

-Front and Rear strut braces

At the moment its running stock psi, ill be needing to buy a boost controller before i turn it up.

What im wanting to know

- i would like firstly make the engine as reliable as possible, the car isnt fitted with an air oil seperator so this will be required, i have also read about the mines baffle on the top of the engine and the baffle in the sump, what other oil modifcations will increase the life of my engine

- what sort of killowatt should require me to modifying and upgrading the head, at this point in time mine has only been machined and polished,

-I plan to track it in the future, how are the fuel systems, will i be required a surge tank and new pumps on the lower hp? what sort of horse power will require me to upgrade the injectors and rails?

-3rd to 4th in the gear box there is a crunch some times, is ti possible to fix this?

- also is there any way to check that it has the extended crank, im paranoid about this

sorry if these are stupid questions i have only really worked on rotaries before, i know how to use the search button but im not finding the answers i want

Alot if people will say that the g4 is better, personally I don't really know but from experience I'm very happy with mine

Not sure what extended crank is :s do you mean extended sump?

I'd leave your head as it is for the time being

That crunch from 3 rd to 4th is a common thing, some people claim they fix it from using Redline gear oil..

Personally I had my box rebuilt with new syncros and a modification on 4th to stop it from crunching in the future

Depending on what sump and baffling you have, I like to fill my sump to around 6.5 liters to stop oil starvation during high G's. Though I do have an after market sump at home ready to be put in for future track work

Injectors ( correct me if I'm wrong here) usually make around the 270-280 mark on standard rail pressure

I'd change my fuel pump anyway ( my standard one got old and killed my last engine.

Also afm Max out at around 300rwkw, but if you get a Link g4 you get rid if them anyway

To get the max of your current setup all you need is a new fuel pump, boost controller and a tune (Nistune or a full standalone ecu)

Seeing as the engine is a bit built just tell the tuner you choose to take it to where he thinks is safe

No idea what those turbos will go to but probably near 300kw, probably be limited by the injectors so yeah whatever is safe on those

If you want to run e85 in the future you should go for a high spec ecu so you can run an ethanol content sensor

i know of several cases where people with mines ecu's have grenaded motors while running stock boost.

Its not the AFR's that are the problem on mines ecu's, its the timing maps (which is why they generally make a car feel GREAT! that much timing brings it alive! but dangerously)

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks 
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
