Well, how is this lads.

My cousin rang up late last week and got a quote to insure a 180sx. We purchased the car on the weekend and are picking it up tonight. He rang RAC this arvo and they said that the quote is now void because they are not insuring any new business who drive imports...existing customers are ok however.

This is for a guy who is 32 with 50% NCB!!! He managed to get a covernote through Wesfarmers (who he works for) anyway, and is calling Riaz I think because he fits into their +30 yr old age bracket.

Bastards...

when looking for insurance i had a few quotes and although RAC was high i nearly went with them, but i didn't, which was lucky because now they won't.

anyhow, i went with 'famous classic car insurance' as a last resort (as i had the car and was test driving :D and they turned out nearly $110 cheaper than RAC.

- $704 pa with 60% no claim :D) $450 under 25 excess and $250 minumum whatever... so give them a try?

looks like their site is being upgraded.

carry on!

After skyzerr33 started this thread I was getting worried that I would not get any insurance, but I rang yesterday to confirm my quote with RAC, the person on the other end of the phone brought up the quote with no worries, and I justed ask how long is it valid for etc, the point being I was waiting for their system to say the quote was no longer valid which it didn't!

Which backs up hks-s14 story "they said that the quote is now void because they are not insuring any new business who drive imports...existing customers are ok however." I hope/think this is the reason why my quote is still ok, ie I have a car currently insured with RAC among other things!

called RAC as they didn't call back

who wants to guess what my yearly premium is now for a:

1994 R33 GTST

25 years old 60% no claim?

i'll post the new amount later but for now u can guess and i'm a happy chappy so if you know what i already pay its less :D

    • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
