R32 Gtr Vspec I Original Engine Number Confirmation

Hi All,

I've been searching around for days trying to figure out if there is a way to confirm that the engine in my car is the original one that came with it. The trouble is that the engine number does not appear on the build plate, in Nissan FAST, or even on the original sales documentation from back in 1993. I can confirm that the engine number matches the SA rego, but that really doesn't mean bugger all.

I've called Nissan and as it's not in their FAST software they can't help. Seems quite a few people run into this but I couldn't find any answers on if they were able to work it out.

I never worked this out for sure, but what's the first few numbers of the engine number?

Helps work out if it's *not* the original engine, e.g. RB26-042xxx would be from a 1994 according to: http://www.webbersrbguide.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47:engine-number-register&catid=42:engine-number-registers&Itemid=2

That's correct

A 93 rb26 will start with rb26 03xxxx

95 r33 Gtr rb26 is rb 05xxxx

Etc etc

Thanks for the info - I wasn't aware of that. The engine number starts with RB2603 so the dates match up at least!

you can only really tell if the engine is from the same era. you can't tell if it's the original engine though. possibly if you had the original log book it may have it in it, but i'm not sure
